Movie synopsis

High school romance is difficult enough to navigate when both people are human. But for 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart, INTO THE WILD) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson, HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE), Edward's life as a vampire complicates things even more. At first, when Bella moves from sunny Phoenix to the rainiest corner of Washington State, she isn't sure where she fits in at her new high school. Then she meets Edward, an ethereal beauty of a boy whose unnatural speed and strength lead Bella to the conclusion that her new crush is one of the undead. Suddenly, Bella's boring life is transformed; she's surrounded by love and danger in equal parts, thanks to the hunger of Edward and others of his kind. TWILIGHT is based on the first book in the addictive series by author Stephenie Meyer. Director Catherine Hardwicke (THIRTEEN) certainly knows her audience, which is primarily the teenage girls who worship the book and its characters. There are plenty of swoonworthy shots of Pattinson's perfectly pale Edward, and his romance with Stewart's nicely acted Bella will cause many a sigh among the devoted fans. While TWILIGHT is primarily a love story in the ROMEO AND JULIET mold, there's also plenty of action and horror to be found. Blood flows (this is a vampire movie, after all), but the small amount of gore shouldn't be too much for the squeamish viewers--and it might even draw a boy or two to the screen. The film's record-breaking box office take alone is proof that the film's appeal isn't limited to screaming teen girls.

LOVE VS BLOOD

Review For: Twilight (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Set)

Rating:PG-13

Based on the popular novel by Stephenie Meyer.

Twilight plays out conveniently in the fog-shrouded rural woodlands of the rainy state of Washington, where local vampires can apparently roam free at all hours of the day since the punishing sun rarely shines. Bella (Kristen Stewart) is a moody teen loner who relocates from Mom's home in Arizona to the town of Forks (a particular implement hardly necessary for undead dining), to live with her police officer divorced dad (Billy Burke).
When Bella shows up for her first day at school, she's instantly and mutually attracted to a strangely handsome boy (Robert Pattinson) in a mad crush at first sight encounter. Edward is part of the peculiar, wild-eyed outcast Cullen clan of matriculated sibling foster kids who occupy a separate nook of the school cafeteria, and seem to be shockingly dating each other. Infatuation soon turns to obsession, and eventually Bella figures out that Edward is a descendant of the undead, something that's a whole lot faster to deduce these days what with the Internet, when one can simply google a vampire to out him.

Hope this helps you decide.A must see for any vampire fan, such as in True Blood, or Moonlight,Underworld and the classic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This has had mixed reviews from the book VS the movie, so the choice is yours to make if you have already read the book and want to watch it on screen now. Thanks for reading! :)

Something for everyone.

Review For: Twilight (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Set)
I loved reading the Twilight novels! & when I heard they were going to make it into a movie, I was excited and bouncing off the walls. I couldn't wait to see the characters come to life. But I had my doubts - What if it doesn't turn out to be like how I had imagined it? What if they skipped a scene that I loved in the novel? And many other concerns that any Twi-hard fan would have. However, when sitting in that cinema with all those screaming girls, my doubts disappeared. The experience was like no other. The atmosphere was tense with anticipation. All the girls only wanted one thing, and that was Robert Pattinson.

Needless to say, I love Robert Pattinson in this movie. He portrays Edward exactly how Stephanie Meyer intended. Brooding and mysterious, yet charming at the same time. He has that intense stare that makes you weak in the knees and that same stare can make you fear him - Like he wants you, though for all the wrong reasons. And Kristen Stewart plays Bella magnificently. She portrays selflessness in a way that is subtle and courageous, which she demonstrate towards the end of the movie.

These two characters have great chemistry in the book and a lot of people say it comes to life in the movie. Though, I would have to disagree. While watching the movie, it felt like their relationship was being fast-forwarded. I wasn't convinced that they loved each other, until the last 5-10 minutes of the movie.

This movie isn't just about the love between mortal and vampire. There are some pretty good action scenes too. There's a bit of flying, acrobatics and killing involved. Nothing too intense that will give you nightmares but just enough action that will make this movie great and worth seeing.

So, if you're a fan of sci-fi or romance, this movie may be a great addition to your DVD collection. And if you're a Twi-hard fan, I don't need to explain why you should have a copy of your own.

A Vampire Movie for Everyone Including Me.

Created: 04/19/09
Review For: Twilight (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Set)
There has not been a shortage for the craving of the general public to watch vampire movies. Twilight is one of those movies that seem to cater to the teenage and female group. I don't think this is a minus for the film, however, it seems very slow in places and makes you wonder why the director went in certain directions at the times he did. The Indian Wolf Subplot was a little hard to swallow as well.

Bella and Edward, the two characters that fall in love, played by Kristin Stewart and Robert Pattinson, seem to be perfect for one another. This love brings itself forward and forces the characters to try and deal with the fact that Edward is a vampire and lives with a group of vampires. They all seem to get along with the out-cast human until things get a little hairy but the end turns out to resolve all those issues.

I'll have to give this movie a 4/5 regardless, since it does a few interesting spots and is not overtly grotesque.

Crash and Burn (if you aren't a fan)

Created: 06/02/09
Review For: Twilight (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Set)
What a wreck of potential. The next biggest teen hit since Harry Potter and they don't just make it bad but it's near intolerable. The soundtrack and score was so wrong in all the ways that discerning a pattern or theme is impossible, in between all the indie pop and wandering mind trails of the music composer and his gymnasium of instruments used. For some reason all the high schoolers in a town of 3,000 seem straight out of somewhere much more urban and larger than that. The ridiculous amount of overacting talentless youth triggers the gag reflex and more annoying than that, no one seems to know how to read lines with honest expression. Since I have seen Stewart play well in other films, I could blame her performance on poor directing.

The 'high contrast/low saturation' film filter is not needed and just makes for a desperate attempt to define what the late 00's movies look like, not to mention it makes so many of the beautiful scenery shots dull and uninteresting. Pattinson, who obviously can't sing, struggles to dismiss his English accent and everything that comes out of his mouth just ends up sounding like he has a canary down his throat. Throughout the whole thing it was filmed in such a way that if I hadn't read the book prior I would have no idea what's going on with the characters or back story. Even though much of the lines were taken verbatim, that doesn't account for why so many attributes of the original story were altered great enough as to change the overall effect itself. Bella is written as a plain girl and although I agree that Kristen Stewart matches that description, here they have her more dolled up and seemingly attractive than the Cullens, who aren't much to look at on screen.

The last 30 minutes of the film were immensely better than all the decent scenes prior combined, but it won't save the sinking ship that led us there.
