All I can say is that, if you like Vampire stories, this would be right up your alley. I have shown this show to at least 5 people already, and each one keeps saying how much they liked it. The Blu-ray quality has an extreme amount of clearness/sharpness to it, to the point of seeing fine detail like the peach fuzz on peoples faces. However, the picture quality does have a slight grain to it. Though I feel that it adds to the show since this is a depiction of a small Louisiana back woods town, and the slight grain give the show this certain grittiness that seems to fit well with the type of show this is. In regards to the show, it seems that the show does take a little bit to really get moving, but by the mid way point, it's just to late, the show has already sunk it's fangs in, or you had a drop of V (Drop of vampire blood makes humans trip), and your hooked. You really start to get an idea that there is something very sinister in the background of the main plot lines taking place. These events lead into an excellent 2nd season. Based on a series of books "Southern Vampire Mysteries" The story follows a young waitress named Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress, that seems to have an ability other humans don't. Vampires have come out into the public eye, which has caused a lot a racial tension between the human society, and the Vampire one who now seek to have the same rights as everyone else. "True Blood" happens to be a synthetic blood, created in Japan, that a vampire could drink and sustain life without having to kill humans. Some vampires come out into the open only to be met with racism, and fear. One such vampire, Bill Compton, is the Southern Vampire, from the Civil War era, who becomes the love interest of Ms. Sookie Stackhouse. Not very much in the way of action, but the characters, the writing, and the acting really make this show enjoyable to watch. Keeping in mind that this show may lack action like, vampires with gats shooting things up and explosions, it makes it up in the gore, the sex/prostitution, the violence, the pot/drugs (and alot of it! lol!), the exorcisms, the torture, the orgies, the deaths, the demons, the shape shifters, werewolves, the fanatical church hell bent on kill'in vampires, and any sympathizers and "Fang-Bangers" that get in the way. It's just a friggin great and enjoyable show. Give it a shot, with all of the boring shows out there, it's cool to see something fresh like this come around.
TRUE BLOOD IS AN AWESOME SHOW. LEAVE IT TO HBO TO DO IT RIGHT. THE FIRST SEASON ALLOWS TO GET TO KNOW SOOKIE STACKHOUSE AND HER BROTHER JASON AND THE GRANDMOTHER THAT SOOKIE LIVES WITH. AND THEN BILL THE VAMPIRE COMES ALONG AND SWEEPS SOOKIE OFF HER FEET AND ON TO HER BACK. IT'S HBO FOLKS. KIND OF FUNNY. CBS SAID VAMP SHOWS WONT MAKE IT SO THEY PULLED MOONLIGHT WHICH HAD A GREAT FOLLOWING AND TRUEBLOOD IS A SMASH HIT. THE SHOW IS EXCELLENT AND DEFINITELY ADULT. YOU WONT REGRET BUYING IT. NEW SEASON BEGINS END OF JUNE.
True Blood is based on the Sookie Stackhouse series of books by Charlaine Harris. Ball does an excellent job adapting Harris' world for the screen. Although the books and show do not mirror each other in the fate of certain characters and events; Ball does seem to remain true to the heart of the characters. It's nice to see the world around Sookie expanded and told from different points of view. Fan's of the books may be disappointed that Ball only begins to touch upon the supernatural world around Sookie but Ball makes up for it in the development of secondary characters and the flashbacks into their pasts.
I have yet to watch the complete first season of the great show "True Blood" on Blu-Ray DVD. Reasons: (1) I watched the first run of show when it came on HBO, and (2) The second season has yet to finish on HBO just yet.
I am uber excited. I have heard the digital quality on Blu-Ray is superb. A person can see EVERYTHING, every pore, every pimple...everything. Some people do not like that, seeing everything. They hold actors to a different regard. Not me; actors are just people. They get pimples, they get wrinkles. The only difference is they can afford to "correct" this alleged problems, and they can do it in secret.
As I started out this review, I am uber excited to watch the great show "True Blood" on Blu-Ray DVD.
I really do not understand people who do not like this program!! I do not watch a lot of TV mainly because I am highly critical and find most TV shows are boring. True Blood has a superb plot (if the critics among you bother to see series 1 and 2 through), a great cast, and a killer cliffhanger at nearly every episode. Alan Ball has done a great job in 'sucking' the viewer in to this one.
