| "Tricks" is a gripping new work, written in verse, from the "New York Times"-bestselling author of "Crank." "When all choice is taken from you, life becomes a game of survival."Five teenagers from different parts of the country. Three girls. Two guys. Four straight. One gay. Some rich. Some poor. Some from great families. Some with no one at all. All living their lives as best they can, but all searching...for freedom, safety, community, family, love. What they don't expect, though, is all that can happen when those powerful little words "I love you" are said for all the wrong reasons. Five moving stories remain separate at first, then interweave to tell a larger, powerful story -- a story about making choices, taking leaps of faith, falling down, and growing up. A story about kids figuring out what sex and love are all about, at all costs, while asking themselves, "Can I ever feel okay about myself?" A brilliant achievement from New York Times best-selling author Ellen Hopkins -- who has been called "the bestselling living poet in the country" by mediabistro.com --Tricks is a book that turns you on and repels you at the same time. Just like so much of life. A "New York Times"-bestselling author delivers a gripping new work of verse that tells five moving stories that remain separate at first, then interweave to tell a larger, powerful story--a story about making choices, taking leaps of faith, falling down, and growing up. I am a huge fan of Ellen Hopkins' poetic novels. They are real life situations that she writes to inform and intrigue her readers. The best part is the story is written in poetic form so the 600+ pages go by quickly and leave you begging for more. I really enjoyed how she draws the characters into each others lives, and they don't know it, but through Hopkins, they are connected to each other. The book is a hard one to put down with stories that most can relate to even though they take wild turns. It makes you wonder what people are really capable of doing in desperate times. I recommend this book to anyone who likes real life stories, fictional characters, and a good and easy read.
Ellen Hopkins writes about teens in situations where they think they can't get out of it, and they are always great, maybe not the ending you would like but, she is real and so are her characters. Love her writing.
Love this author. Read ALL her books. This one is very catchy, however there ae so many charachters at times it makes it a bit boring and hard to keep up. Still a great book, great read for ages 16 and up i'd say.
This book is amazing. It changed my life like Crank did. The book has a very powerful impact on me. I read it during the time i had and i could never out it down. My eyes were pealed to the pages. Out of all the books she wrote, her Tricks book has to be the best. It was kind of hard to keep the people in track because there were 5 people to follow and they all intertwined in some way.
Amazing book, if you like depressing yet true fiction stories these books by Ellen Hopkins are unreal.
