Product Information
Activision's top-selling Tony Hawk franchise returns with a completely revamped control scheme designed around a motion-sensing, contoured peripheral resembling, appropriately enough, a skateboard. Individual sensors positioned on the sides, front, and back of the wireless peripheral will track individual gestures as you tilt, lean, kick back, and hold out your arms to initiate various actions. You'll guide your onscreen alter ego solely with the peripheral while competing in various scenarios built around the sport's speed, trick, and vertical challenges. Alternate turns with nearby friends and family members with the "hot seat" option, or test your skills online against skaters from around the world.

This Walmart exclusive release includes a red skateboard accessory that features a hawk design.

TH Ride controller - You could have been a contender...

The controller itself is a good piece of gear. Solidly constructed of high impact plastic. It balances well in either 'manual' position (there's a natural balance divet where the trucks 'would' be to assist with extended manuals.)

Sensors around the edge of the board facilitate emulated grabs and 'pushing.' For the controller alone, this definitely gets a 9/10 rating.

Not part of my purchase here but i did rent the Tony Hawk Ride game (as that's the only game currently working with the controller.)

The game poorly utilizes the excellent controller they've got here.

For the most part they try to keep with the natural motions of skating. (e.g. quick pop of the tail approximates and ollie, hand over one of the 4 sensors emulates a grab if in the air. Manuals feel like manuals.) They get points for trying. What makes this game a bit challenging is the lack of momentum. Where a lean to either side would naturally cause a turn, in real life forces like gravity and centripetal acceleration will keep you attached to your skate. on the ride controller, you're likely to just fall off. You can overcome by just using your ankles to give the board a roll either way but, for those who've skated, it feels way un-natural.

The other horrible mess is the interface. 1 you can't connect more than one at a time so you're limited to playing solo or on line. I guess there may be safety concerns but I'm assuming if you can shell out 70 bucks retail, you're able make that decision on your own.

#2 you need a xbox controller. Granted you probably already own one, but having to get it off the coffee-table or chair or sofa or floor or remembering where you put it sucks. a lot. The interface could have been so much better streamlined.

#3 if you're playing with another guy who's a goofy-foot skater. good luck trying to recalibrate between rounds. ICK. ICK. ICK.

#4 game caliber for Ride is no - repeat not - what I'd expect of the 6th or 7th game in the series. As a fan-boy of the other games (even the bad ones) this has got to be the worst looking game since THPS 1 on the PSX.

I do sincerely hope that they do a better job with the controller for the next game, Although if they drop the controller support on the next game, I might cry a bit that I bought this one.... Oh how it sucks to be a fanboy....

this is the worst tony hwak game yet

I am a skateboarded so when i seen this game i thought i was in love at first sight but then when i got the game i found out looks can be deceiving. if you are a small child this would probably be a ok game but if you want something that will respond when you tell it to this is not that game. Reaction time is very sluggish and when you make the motion for one trick you will likely get a different trick if you want a good skating game go to one of the earlier th games or one of the skate brand games.

Tony Hawk: Ride (Xbox 360, 2009)

My almost nine year son had an easy time figuring the game out. He loves skateboards and the game is great for balance training and just fun for him to play. I am very pleased with my purchase.

    blah...

the game is average. nothing special. for people that want to get it but here bad reviews about it, just wait till its a little cheaper. the motion controls are alright. i just recommend getting a real skateboard.

    okay not great

It is a great idea...but the board is a bit odd to ride and the game itself is a bit easy. It feels like you are just jumping up and down to do tricks...if you can get it cheep enough its not a bad game just don't pay sticker price!
