I now own two XXL550TM GPS units. I have read reviews saying they are dangerous and hard to program. I find the TomTom XXL550TM GPS to be an outstanding value, easy to program, easy to setup and very easy to use. For the people that have issues with the windshield mounting should try to moisten the suction pad prior to attaching the GPS to the windshield. I do recommend every owner read the online manual. There are many features that you will never find with casual use without reading the manual.
good useful easy to use unit bought this product for the size of the screen needed for travel in florida where we just bought a new home in new port richey able to place on windshield for easy view
This GPS itself is competent but even the most recent map software is loaded with errors. Last weekend, heading for a ski resort/restaurant fifty miles away (a built-in Point of Interest), we ended up at an an abandoned farmhouse a mile from the actual place. Within two miles of my home the map wants to send me up a road that has been closed for the twenty-five years I have lived here.
My wife has a Garmin for her car; I have a handheld Garmin with several maps on SD cards. I have found next to no errors in the Navtek maps that Garmin sells. TomTom needs a new map supplier.
I know TomTom claims to make corrections submitted by users, but the newest map still sends me up the closed road. Making corrections is not hard if your correction fits one of the categories.
This is my second gps and is far better than my Navagon. Startup was easy and the signal was received quickly. Like the internal memory, free maps and free traffic updates which was encluded with the TomTom. Mount works well with adding a little liquid to it. It has stayed on for a week so far. Directions are easy to follow. You should enjoy this product.
This unit is easy to use, and works as advertised. Right out of the box. I bought mine at COSTCO and installed it right in the parking lot. 5min and I was on my way. Connected it to my mac, installed TomTom home and immediately was promted to update maps. I did and after about an hour everything was updated. I just love the unit. The suction mount is my only gripe, but after practicing a few times... no more issues. Has not fallen off my windshild at all. The signal is aquired in seconds, way faster than any garmin and the guidance is accurate. Highly recommend.
