Better late than never...Titleist DCI 990
Created: 09/02/09
Unreal find!! I have wanted these clubs since they came out in the late 90's. The wait was well worth it and long overdue. The irons are the perfect weight and solid, consistent contact is well rewarded. These irons are a step forward in taking my game to the next level...
Took the set to the range immediately and worked my way through a bucket of balls to get familiar with the feel and weight. The first 20 balls were a mix of perfect strikes and brutal shanks due to not being used to the new weight of the new heads and flex of the S300 shafts. BUT...after getting dialed in, the only concern is now I will have to find the distances with each club all over again because I notice a considerable yardage gain with each club in the set!! I was a long hitter before but the distance increase is amazing without any extra effort...not to mention the straight ball flight and trajectory.
I love the feel of the muscle-back and even though the club faces are smaller than that of my previous set, I have no trouble finding the sweet spot...even with the long irons.
Also, another 'issue' that I now have is having to adjust for the new draw produced naturally by my swing with the new stiff shafts. My previous set had regular flex shafts and because of my high swing speed the face had a tendency to be open slightly at impact due to the clubhead lag... no more!! The S300 shaft holds up beautifully...confirming that new equipment was long overdue. I feel much more comfortable being able to put a good swing on it everytime without worrying that it might shoot out right.
I am excited to have found this set (never hit outside) at the perfect time and put them in my bag finally!! Better late than never!!
Not really sure why the seller had these lying around unused for so long but I could not be more grateful that I was able to find them.
Oh, btw...they LOOK damn sweet in the bag, too!!! The second day that I took them to the range, a woman from the clubhouse came around doing a survey of the clubs that everyone had in his/her bag and, for the first time, I was more than proud to show off my sticks!! =)

Good Irons

These irons are a love-hate relationship. I would say these are for a more experienced golfer who can work the ball and consistantly hit in the center of the club face. I shoot in the low 80's and some days I find these clubs to be long but not forgiving. The ball flight is high even on the long irons which has a shorter hosel to lower cgi. If you hit an off center shot you will know it. All in all a good solid iron.

DCI 990 irons...good, clean and honest.
Created: 10/11/08
Played the irons today and first impressions are favorable. I've always played forged blades, but was looking for something a little more forgiving without too much bulk or offset. Setup is very blade-like with a thin topline and minimal progressive offset. Also like the look and idea of a variable length hosel. Quite easy to control shape and trajectory. Distances were typical of players clubs and not too jacked in the shorter irons. Feel and feedback were good but not great. A couple of misses felt better than they were and turf drag was a little harsh on the longer irons. Sensitivity may have suffered from the Sensicore shaft option. I've never been a fan of those and will probably reshaft with my favorite "Black Gold" by True Temper. All in all, a very good set of irons. In my opinion, the last good casting to come out of the Titleist factory.

Great Player's Irons. Not a Beginner's Club!
Created: 05/20/09
After working with my coach and correcting some serious flaws (now down to a 5 handicap), I have changed to these clubs and really like them. With my Founders Club cavity back clubs, I can work the ball around trees, etc., but the irons DCI 990's are far more accurate.
These clubs do not like fat hits, thin hits, or shots hit from the heel or toe. Hit them on the small sweet spot and they perform very well. They will give feedback in a deliberate way on not so perfect hits. Also a great sound and buttery feel on the sweet hits.
