The Waterboy is a 1998 American comedy film directed by Frank Coraci. It stars Adam Sandler alongside Henry Winkler, Kathy Bates, Jerry Reed, and Fairuza Balk. Lynn Swann, Lawrence Taylor, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Cowher, Paul Wight (aka: The Big Show on WWE), and Rob Schneider have cameos. Sandler produced the movie and co-wrote the script with Tim Herlihy.
The movie was extremely profitable, earning over $160 million in the United States alone and made Sandler a successful actor with The Waterboy becoming his second $100 million film in a year, along with The Wedding Singer.
Sandler's character, Bobby Boucher (pronounced "Boo-SHAY"), bears a strong resemblance to his "The Excited Southerner" comedic skits from his album "What the Hell Happened to Me?" The portrayal is one of a stereotypical Cajun from the bayous of South Louisiana, not the typical stereotype of a Southerner. He also shares similarities in speech and mannerism to Canteen Boy, a recurring character, also portrayed by Adam Sandler, on Saturday Night Live.[1] Like Bobby, Canteen Boy preferred "purified water, right out of the old canteen", which he always carried with him.
31-year-old waterboy, Bobby Boucher is constantly tormented by the team he works for until he is fired by the coach. He then finds a new coach to work for. Here he finds a new talent, tackling people by pretending they're making fun of them. Soon, he becomes the best linebacker in college football, but he must keep it secret from his overprotective mother. A lightweight comedy handled with playfulness. "The Waterboy" scores big points for laughs. If you want an hour and a half of fun, see this movie.
I love this movie.
Adam Sandler is such a funny and great actor.
So pretty much bobby (sandler) is the teams waterboy and gets made fun of all the time.
So the coach finds a way for him to play football by making him think of things that make him mad.
He has to keep him playing football a secret from his overprotective mother.
This is a really good movie and I know you will like it ")
the waterboy is a great movie. every adam sandler movie just turns to gold. this movie is funny. sandler plays a waterboy who finds his true calling and becomes a football player for a down and out player but his mother doesn't approve. also henry winkler plays a coach who is a little warped out but is great in this movie. this is a great movie and will make you laugh.
What can you NOT laugh at in this movie??!! It's funny from beginning to end. I have loved this movie ever since I can remember and had previously gotten it before I purchased this one. I had to replace my original because I let my children watch it and you know that some kids don't handle DVD's with care and it got scratched. Adam Sandler is a SUPERIOR comedian who reaches not only adults with his humor, but he keeps it toned down enough even for children to watch. His choice of support characters was amazing! Who knew K(C)athy Bates was so funny! "Foolsball" has become a term in my family that always brings a laugh. Adam has a way of keeping the storyline going and on point with the plot. If he gets any funnier in this movie, I may have to make a trip to the emergency room because I'll have pulled something vital. If you're thinking about owning this movie, please go ahead and get it. You won't be sorry! It's one you'll want to watch over and over again.
