|"YOU'RE THE CARETAKER, SIR. YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN THE CARETAKER. I SHOULD KNOW, SIR. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN HERE...." -- DELBERT GRADY OF THE OVERLOOK HOTEL THE SHINING First published in 1977, "The Shining" quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed, and the hotel itself attempts to laim the very souls of the Torrence family. Adapted into a cinematic masterpiece of horror by legendaryStanley Kubrick -- featuring an unforgettable performance by a demonic Jack Nicholson --"The Shining" stands as a cultural icon of modern horror, a searing study of a family torn apart, and a nightmarish glimpse into the dark recesses of human weakness and dementia.|

I guess I write this review for one purpose, to promote the many great books by Stephen King. The shining is but one and it was good enough to have two movies made from it. If you have never read Stephen King but have a flair for good horror (not all his books are horror) books you should give him a try. I have read everything he has ever written and some books twice (including the stand). If you don't read, check out a King movie. Stephen King is master story teller with the ability to drag you in and make you part of the book.
I could go on but it is time to read a good book. Maybe you should give one a try!
I just received the book today. I love Stephen King's writings since he keeps you on the edge of your seat with his horror books. Once you begin reading his books you just cant seem to put them down. Sometimes before you know it you have read through the entire night just to get to the end of a book of his.
I am sure this book will be just as good as the movie he made. I have watched The Shining numerous times and it has never failed to scare the daylights out of me when I watch it.
I feel that Stephen King is one of the top rated writers of all times and has done a marvelous job through the years with his writings.
i like a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.it will go in my stephen king library. plus i have the movie and it was good,so the book will be more detailed and tell more.
This was a slow book. It was different than the movie but it was slower. Steven King is his descriptive self. Rambling on for pages describing nothing that pertains to the story. If you have time to kill. Go for it.
