Album Notes
A compilation of the first six, very limited UK-only 7" singles that RCA/UK released each month of 1992.Issued in 1992, HIT PARADE 1 presents the first half of the Wedding Present's year-long project, which involved releasing one 7" single every month with an original song on the A side and a cover tune on the B side. With frontman David Gedge's own songs leading the charge, the collection begins in typically high-energy Weddoes fashion, epitomizing the U.K. group's near symphonic jangle-punk sound on the bristling lovelorn anthem "Blue Eyes." Though the cover songs selected don't always suit Gedge's willfully flat vocals and the ensemble's restless approach, they yield interesting results, with a slightly sped-up version of the Go-Betweens' pastoral classic "Cattle and Cane" and a fuzzed-out rendition of Julee Cruise's dreamy "Falling" (from the TWIN PEAKS TV series) standing out as highlights.

3 Stars - Good - ..the band displays a humor, melodic nous and hi-octane grunge potential...distinctly worthwhile..
