Beats R7 Quad, but R7 460 & Super Quad are cuts above!

Created: 07/15/06
I hit my drive with my Titleist 983K, then I hit another with my partner's R580XD. My 580XD drive flew my 983K ball and stopped 25-30 yards beyond it. I immediately reserved an original R7.

I loved my R7 and often watched with delight as others compared their drivers and left shaking their heads and their drivers. Not wanting ever to be beaten by technology, I bought the new R7 425 when it came out. It was better than the original with a larger sweet spot and more forgiveness than the original.

If you adjust the screws, be prepared for the result. If you adjust it for lower trajectory, you're likely to lose yardage under normal conditions. (Remember, the ground and the grass offer more resistance than the air.) Although, you might benefit from such an adjustment under windy conditions. If you adjust it to draw or fade the ball, you tend to get that result. For real players, this is not really an advantage and having to leave it in whatever adjustment you make until you finish the round could be a real disadvantage. Otherwise, I am definitely a believer in this technology.

My only problem has been the feedback. Miss hits sound very much like center hits, only they are shorter and slightly off line. That said, I highly recommend it, although you will probably get even more forgiveness with the increased sweet spot of the R7 Quad, or R7 460. I opted for the 460 Burner because I was not adjusting the neutral setting and I like the forgiveness and higher MOI of the 460 Burner.

You could save a few bucks and go with one of the R5 460s. Regardless of which TaylorMade Driver you choose, there is no doubt in dafoxyman's mind that TaylorMade has the best technology and range of selections. When it comes to drivers, TaylorMade is constantly rewriting the book. I recommend TaylorMade to all of my friends. Better yet, I let them hit my TaylorMade and they make up their own minds! That's TDD--TaylorMade Driver Dominance!!!

R7 425 is as good as it will get in a driver!

Created: 01/30/07
I've played golf for years and this club is the truth! I'm 60 years old but usually out drive guys half my age. I previously played the r7 HT. I love my r7 HT. I'm left handed and my r7 HT has a regular shaft with a 10.5 loft. But I thought I'd try the r7 425, 10.5 loft. The prices on ebay are just too good to to pass up.

You see, I've built clubs and have made a driver from components for years. I remember when I started making clubs. It was back in the year when Yonex made the first ADX 100. It had the graphite head and a extra long graphite shaft. Very soon after that club hit the market, Callaway introduced the Big Bertha. Anyway, I know shafts and the properties of a graphite shaft. The r7 with the Re•Ax - M flex shaft puts the ball into the air and LONG. If your swing speed is around 110, then this shaft will send the ball 250 yards or more without a problem. I just used my r7 425 this past weekend for the first time and it was a cold 34* when we started. The very first drive out of the box went 250 yards. I cannot wait until spring comes and things warm up and dry out.

The M flex is not sloppy. It has a very tight torque of 3.4 and very stable. If you want more kick try this club with this shaft. Ego will get you no where in golf. Happy golfing!!

R7 425 Reax 65 Reg shaft

Created: 01/20/07
Bought this club on Ebay for 100.00 , 10.5 deg with reg reax shaft. The club is very accurate , I hit every fairway but 1 on the first time out. With the reax shaft I was ballooning the ball way to high and losing distance , so I changed the shaft to a grafalloy proto nt85 stiff , now it does'nt balloon and it is even more accurate than before , and longer. The moveable weights really work , I set the weights for maximum draw and almost hooked the ball off the range for the next few hits. I naturally hit the ball with a draw so I moved the weights to maximum fade , now I hit it straight or with just a slight fade or draw. I think you will like this driver , but if you have a high swing speed try to get a stiffer shaft with a higher kickpoint.

r7 425 driver

Created: 04/18/09
Just got this club. I've owned 3 other Taylor Made drivers. This thing rocks. Fist time out this season I configure the club for a slight draw, hit the ball down the left fairway (I'm left handed), and good distance.. I look at the club face, see I hit it very close to the toe. I couldn't believe how forgiving and long the club was. I brought my old driver (r5 560) and started w/ it, but decided to try out this new club and never felt the need to go back to the one I was more comfortable with.

Taylormade R7 425 Driver

Created: 08/26/08
The weighting of the face is absolutely perfect. I can hit a draw, slice anytime I need to on a given hole. You can feel the face coming through the impact zone and it is really easy to control. The X-Stiff Aldila shaft really helps because I believe the stock shaft in Taylormade clubs is AWFUL. I seem to be hitting this a little higher than my normal driver but its great with a little tail wind. Absolutely great club, and now that they are cheap on Ebay and marked down in stores, they are a great steal. Go out and get yourself one.
