TAYLORMADE R9 TP IRON REVIEW
Created: 12/22/10
Let's see, this is my 1st, no 2nd, no 3rd, no 5th set of Taylormade irons. I've played Ping i5's, Mizuno MP-52, Callaway X-20 Tours in the past.
I started looking for a new set of irons it was between Titleist AP2's and the Taylormade R9 TP's. I've been playing TM TP wedges EXCLUSIVELY for about 9 years so it was natural for me to gravitate to the TM R9 TP's. From the moment you get these clubs out of the box, to putting them in your bag. The thought of wanting to hit them doesn't leave!
This is a true classic looking players club. I would not recommend these for the average golfer, but the mid to lower handicap player that really wants feedback to take their game to the next level. At address, it's obvious that these aren't your mother's clubs. These are truly a sexy, sleek and stylish looking club. When you hit these clubs "right" you feel absolutely nothing. However, your off hits ARE NOT forgiving.
Again, I would recommend these clubs to the mid to lower handicap player looking to really take their game to the next level.

Worth hitting. Great feel. Beware of high ball flight

As a golfer who rarely switches equipment, I bit the bullet and went with the R9. I had been playing callaway hawkeye irons for about 10 years. From only hitting these once, I noticed that the short irons have a high trajectory compared to a blade, but fly similar to my old hawkeyes. I LOVE the long irons. 3-5 are actually a joy to swing and the feel of a well struck ball is a delight! My biggest asjustment will be Pitch through 8iron as they seem to fly a few yards shorter than my old hockey stick-like hawkeyes...due to added spin and trajectory I presume. Overall, very nice feel. BEAUTIFUL setup. Nice weight. Worth waiting a year for the price to be cut in half. Go hit these for yourself. (I am about an 8-10hcp for reference - hit 7 iron 170 +/- 10 yards between clubs)

I´ve been playing Ping i5,i3+ blade, Mizuno mp30,mp14, Callaway x-forged, Taylor Made 320. I was playing Mizuno Mp14 when i decided that my game needed more forgiving clubs, my handicap is 3 and my ballstriking is above avarage. Mizuno are the best to hit but lack of forgivenes bring them down. Ping is also great set of irons especially i5, but feel abit chunky sometimes. I would say that R9 tp irons bring out the best of Ping and Mizuno irons combined.
Taylor Made R9 tp irons are very classy but yet a modern type of club. When you look down at it the first thought is WOW sexy and these give you plenty confidence also. I love the high boring flight and also the feedback from good struck shots is awesome. If you play Dynamic Gold shafts then KBS should not be a problem, but if you play Project X then don´t go with KBS shafts.

r9 TP irons KBS stiff shafts,

Great combination of a "player's iron" and forgiveness.
KBS shafts feel great; feels like the ball stays on the clubface longer; great ball flight!
These irons "sit" perfectly --- look great at address.
Will probably swap the standard grips for Golf Pride cord grips.
Being an equipment nut, I can say from experience that these irons compare very favorably to other "players" irons!

Taylormade R9 TP Irons
Created: 08/09/10
I have been using a set of King Cobra oversize irons since I purchased them new 15 years ago. I have tried other clubs but have not changed since I have been happy with my clubs. Even trying other clubs, I have not been as successful on the course as with my trusty Cobra's. I happen to be in the local golf shop with a friend when he convinced me to look at some of the new clubs. Again, I continued to be more successful with my old clubs, until I tried the new Taylormade R9 TP irons. Right from the start I was hitting them farther and more straight then any other club I have tried to date. I immediately started looking for a set. I found a "very slightly used" set on eBay and couldn't have purchased them quick enough. Taking them to the course was the same experience as in the golf shop. I was hitting them much farther, and far straighter then my old clubs, in fact I was outdoing my golf companions by a considerable spread! I love these clubs and would suggest them to anyone!
