Almost the Ideal Driver for the TaylorMade line
Created: 10/15/07
I present to you the 540xd. To my eye the head is shaped a tad awkward in design and yet, it delivers a good moving trajectory. I have the 9.5* w/a YS6 Stiff shaft. Im not a big fan of the high-gloss black, producing every star-bright reflection on my woods...but it does get the job done. THE FEEL AT IMPACT-a medium to hard impact feel followed by a sound of "POP!" not a ting, ping or crack is my best description of sound. The initial flight of trajectory is pretty impressive on the way up to its peak, then for me, it dies out and drops. This may be due to the lack of velocity of my own swingspeed. The loft is pretty much what it is...you play a 9.5* your gonna get that flight, unless of course, you have a crisp snap at impact then your ball flight is gonna climb with authority. If you can find a unmolested driver with the original shaft in it, and you want to be wise is the cost factor, I would recommend this driver with 70% confidence. Better than above average if you can look past the appearance of the driver. Yes, you will need to tee it up some...using the typical 2.5" tees will not serve you well. Hitting below the equator fo the face will shorten the distance, still going striaght, but nevertheless short. While at your stance, your looking at a the ball, the thought comes to mind "dang...no way that I can miss the sweetspot" and for most part its true...but, any closing of the face at impact will be reflected as the short left hook (for the right handers). If you want to overplay the open face, yes it works very well for a degree or two but, that is it. Its a good transistion from the older line of TaylorMades if your climbing the TM ladder.

TaylorMade R540 XD Driver Golf Club
Created: 01/25/08
I have played golf for a few years and actually worked in the industry for a time. As one who has been obsessed by the game (5 years low Handicap 9.6 Now 13), I always look for the perfect clubs, but typically the prices have gone over the top. Taylor Made is my driver of choice. Through the years from the Burner Bubble to the first Titanium (the best) and the evolution to the weighted Quads, I've been there. My favorites have been the afore mentioned 1st Titanium Bubble, then the 320 Ti and the 540XD that I only hit for a couple of hours in demo session in Palm Springs.
To find someone that had an original Men's left handed Taylor Made 540XD Ti Stiff in the up sized 400cc Head. But the best part was the Shaft (raved by Tour Players) the Y-S6 Graphite Stiff shaft a $70.00 upgrade was original factory installed. All in factory wrap with Headcover for 80% off original retail.
This will all be worth the years of searching for my new friend.
I will now have lots of Men's LH Drivers as soon as spring breaks in Idaho.

TM 540XD right club, right size, right orig. shaft
Created: 08/07/07
After 3+ years heavy use, developed face crack, now in TM's hands under manuf. warranty, awaiting response. Meanwhile, not wanting to wait, bought the r7 425 (w/movable wts.)... more erratic, no longer with it, and the head is too high/big for my eye, (ibid the 580xd) so I found another identical 540xd, 10.5º orig. 55/S soft tip shaft, in exc. condition and paid up to get it quick. In interim, range-tried a 460 Cobra, didn't suit me at all. I also have/happy with the 540xd steel 5 w and the 580 (titanium)3 wood. (TM Rescue was too hooky/closed face for me.) The 540xd is hot-faced and workable, and I prefer its orig. TM shaft to the newer Fujikura in the r7 425,(too soft/whippy for me tho labeled Stiff). Haven't hit the new TM Burner yet, but that's the only one I can possibly imagine MIGHT be as satisfying as the good ol', or great ol', 540xd.

Taylormade r540 xd driver 10.5 degree

This is among the best of the best. Distance and carry is great. Very forgiving. Great launch angle and unbelievable ball flight. Easy to shape shots off the tee. I have made a move from a Ping G2 driver to Taylormade R540 xd. This transition was a breeze. I enjoy this driver more than any other I have used. Good luck hope this helps.

I havent used a driver in about 10 years. I decided to look for something and came across the TaylorMade R540. I took it to the course 2 days after I received it. The ball was jumping off the clubface! I was hitting it straight and 250-300 yards. This is a great club.
