On the Road to Par Golf w TaylorMade Burner Plus Irons

Set out on journey to become a consistent par golfer. Starting out bought the cheapest sets of clubs and played them much like the local billiards pool table (and yes by the way that did mean it was unlevel and had worn side-rail bumpers) and living with the way they would react to temperature, weather, different golf balls and oh-yeah my many occasional (im)perfect swings!
Starting out @ age 25 was probably an average 104 rounder with an occasional showing in the high 80's, but have gradually lowered the score to be consistently under bogey golf - now the card is filled with strings of successive pars and the occasional birdie. But the quest needed to step to the next level as 21 years have been added to the original body that still expects the ball to travel as far, but doesn't have the same swing as before.
I had always said that when I was at a comfortable point and felt that this was 'as good as it gets' for a reward I would purchase a 'good' set of clubs.
After getting a hole-in one last year I considered myself at that point.
I had always kept my eyes on what the other guys were clubbing with in anticipation of when I would finally make my choice. No doubt technology of cavity backs and shafts brought the lower scores to my game and after visiting local golf stores and pro-shops set my sights on the burner plus irons:
-with my finger tip pressure lessening the grips seem to weld to my palms and make up for it,
-the rounded pattern of the sole allowed an effortless swing to take the ball high and straight.
-the stiff shaft resonated with precise feedback
So far two trips to the course (no golf range try-out) has yielded moderate success (88&84)as I adjust to the new clubs (+1/2"longer). With a straighter spine angle and softer swing the ball is travelling with a lot less effort. The positive feel and instant feedback on each swing is providing a confidence building partnership that I know will culminate in taking the right shot and getting the right outcome and eventually get me to a round(s) of par golf. The quest continues with TaylorMade!

Burner Plus Iron set

The reason i bought the burner plus iron set was i used to have the callaway x-18 iron set in graphite shafts. I really coudnt get the workability i was looking for, but i also wanted alot of distance. I tried out various clubs, but the burner plus irons really stood out. I gained almost 10 yards more with the burner plus irons than the x-18s. I chose the superfast 85gr. steel shafts for increased playability. Now i am able to hit draws and fades much easier with these clubs in comparison to my old set. The only disadvantage i have with these clubs is at address, the club felt much different than my old set so it took a little while to get used to. However, once i got used to them, I was striking the ball much better and my scores began to get better. P.S(Try the burner plus irons as well as the burner irons).

Great Irons

The Burner plus is a great club at an even better price. I am a full iron longer with these clubs and love the feel of a well struck ball. They have made a big difference in my game.

Great User Friendly/Long/Accurate irons

These irons are longer, more accurate and achieve a better iron trajectory than any of the Ping irons i have used for over 30 years! They have, probably, less feel, but the irons are definitely longer by 8-12 yards, easily, and have more backspin at the same distances as the Pings (i had Ping Raptures, not the V2, and before that, had steel shafts; the newer ones were graphite, which may have been a purchasing mistake)...I have not been disappointed with any one shot with these new irons and, based on comments from others who have the Burners and Burner Plus irons, it seems they are universally better than any other clubs out there. handicap index 8.0, age 65 1/2, been playing for 48 years.

Very good Set!

I have played with these clubs and they are great irons. I chose the other Burner clubs instead of these only because I didnt like the feel of the ball striking the club face. Very good clubs, probably more of a personal opinion, I would recommend and of the Burner Iron Sets to anyone, and to decide which one suits your game better.
