Burner Draw Driver '08 - I like this driver so much that I own two of them, one for my set of clubs at my home in MN and another recently purchased for a set of clubs I have for a winter place in AZ. Slicing has been the bane of my game. The MN club is marked "HT" for "high trajectory," and has a 13.5 degree loft. I rarely hit a "worm burner with that club." The second club has a 10.5 degree loft and I rarely "sky" the ball with it. Both clubs have helped my correct the slice, even if that means just less of a slice, at times.
I am an older golfer (70) but in good shape. I do not get the distances reported by some of the users, but do not expect to gain more distance. My drives range from 180 to 220 yards. Not the fault of the club. This is a great club, I have recommended it to friends who have bought it as well and have come to love it for what it has done for their game. I do not understand why Taylormade discontinued this model. It is a winner!
I bought this driver last year when I was a 25 handicap. I wanted to get the ball in the air and have some accuracy so I got it with a 13 degree loft. I was amazed with how easy this was to hit and the distance it added. The draw bias really helped eliminate the occasional slice and I finally had some confidence in my driver shots!
At the start of this season I took some lessons and found my swing getting better/faster, so I started ballooning my shots and sending them too high. The solution? the same driver with a 10.5 degree loft! I am now a 20 handicap, hoping to break 90 by season's end!
I really prefer the draw version of the driver as it has a shallower, wider face than the regular burner. It inspires alot of confidence. I even like it better than the 09 burner.
The face is 2-3 degrees closed (varies depending on loft). At first this took some getting used to when lining up my shots, it felt like the clubface was pointing to the left, so I started to use the "V" design on the crown to line up shots instead...you have to trust the club and just swing!
One of the best drivers i've ever owned. The large face makes solid contact much easier as well as forgiving for off-center hits. Almost impossible to slice; hense, most drives either down the middel or on left side of fairway. Within our group, most have gone to this driver.
Okay I'll admit it right up front. I'm one of those fools who keeps falling for those "new and improved" marketing ploys that accompany ever new driver! I actually believed that the word DRAW would magically transform my tendency to slice into a lovely curving draw! Rationally I know that no club can correct a significant swing flaw, and yet I continue to buy into the hype. To be fair I think this driver is probably as good as there is on the market today. If I somehow miraculously manage to make decent contact with the ball, it does seem to give me improved distance off the tee. I suspect that any of the Burner series would make a fine driver and perhaps a better golfer could see a benefit from the "Draw" dimension, but for an average golfer who often struggles to find the sweet spot off the tee there won't be much benefit. The difference in a Draw driver and a standard driver can't be significant enough to actually be something the average golfer will see a benefit from.
This driver is absolutely great! As soon as you address the ball with this monster the confidence in your game goes through the roof. With the massive size of the head you are constantly thinking to yourself "how on earth can I even try to miss the ball". The light weight shaft makes this driver easy and comfortable to use. Trust me, the DRAW described for this club is for real. I used to slice the ball so bad that people would often stop and stare if I was on the driving range with them. I'm talking about teeing up on the furthest left box and slicing into the net on the opposite side! With this driver I can easily hit a slight fade and my fairway % has doubled since I received it. Only problem was I bought a stiff flex when I should have gotten a regular, I am losing distance like crazy, but atleast they are in the short stuff.
