This is the DVD for Disney's Tarzan fans. The movie has great picture quality and sound. There are many extras such as abandoned sequences, interviews with the animators and voice actors, interviews with Phil Collins as he explains how he came up with the music for the movie, and the history of the production. These are all done in short featurettes, which is nice if you don't feel like seeing certain things and want to skip to what you do want to see. They have footage of the crew's trip to Africa for inspiration. There are also Phil Collins early song demos with different titles which you can listen to. Even though the songs have different titles you can tell which song it evolved to. All in all this 2-disc set is far superior to the single DVD released in 2005.
Disney's Tarzan is nothing short of a masterpiece in cinematic animation. All the way from the brilliant soundtrack work from Phil Collins, to the, at times, breathtaking artwork of the Disney animators, to the wonderful casting of voices (my personal favorite female Disney voice--Minnie Driver) that bring to life the classic but updated story of Tarzan. Appropriate for all ages, though mild violence (gunplay and 'Disney death') is throughout so parents should be aware. This 2 disc collector's edition is also full of extras that many other Tarzan dvds don't include. A must have for any Disney and/or Tarzan lover!
I had this DVD long time ago since it came out. Lost it, but now that I have a 2 year old daughter, I would like her to enjoy the great songs and story done by Disney animation. I love all the songs by Phil Collins, he is just the greatest sound writer for both musical animation and broadway, no doubt!
Tarzan is n awesome disney classic (though it is not very old). The music is wonderful the story is well written and the characters each have there own distinct personalities. I purchased this movie on ebay for my nephew as his first disney movie because I believe he will love it as much as me and my son do. This is a movie that grows with the child. The nephew is 1 he will love the music and colors. My son is 7 he too loves the music and colors but also love the animals and the story. Not a dull moment. I love this movie for all the same reasons plus it shows family values both traditionaly and in an adoptive home setting. We are all the same even if we don't look the same!
You might have to be a parent to get into Disney cartoons...or a fan of animation...or a collector of films. This is one of the more powerful offerings by the Disney company, full of action, humor, and emotion with a minimum of singing (Tarzan, thankfully, does not break into song). The collectors edition is full of all kinds of extras taking you into the history of the story and the production techniques behind the film.
