|The largest Game Boy cartridge at the time of its release, Super Mario Land 2 nearly doubles the number of levels found in its side-scrolling predecessor and features a revamped visual style influenced by 1991's Super Mario World. Mario will travel on land, under water, and in outer space to find the six golden coins needed to save the land from his diabolical doppelganger, Wario. The action takes place across six themed zones, each spanning multiple stages: Tree Zone, Space Zone, Macro Zone, Pumpkin Zone, Mario Zone, and Turtle Zone. |
Confront a mixture of familiar faces and new adversaries while acquiring various power-ups to assist Mario. Grow larger, shoot fireballs, and even fly across levels to safely make it through each stage. Mario's flying ability is triggered by a carrot, which causes the portly plumber's hat to sprout powerful bunny ears that can be used like wings. Once all six coins have been collected (by defeating each zone's boss character), the hero must confront his arch-nemesis lurking deep within Mario Land's castle. Automatically save progress throughout your travels via battery backup.

This game is a definite step up from the original mario game. Gameplay is smoother, graphics better, more secrets, more levels - pretty much the handheld equivalent to super mario world, in the same way super mario land 1 was the equivalent to super mario bros. Instead of being thrust into the next numbered level when you reach the end of the stage, you select the next level on an overworld map.
The bosses are more varied and interesting as well. There is a leaf item that lets you fly that wasnt present in its predecessor. You can do spinning jumps and break blocks from the top as well. This game has a lot of meat to it, especially for a classic gameboy game. The last castle and boss battle against wario do not disappoint either. Great stuff, can find for cheap as well, like most classic gameboy games (apparently nobody values this stuff anymore...)
I bought this game because I was wanting to go back and play some of the original gameboy games I played when I was younger. Like snow days at school and sleep-over birthday parties, this game was one of the joys of my childhood. Unfortunely, as I have found, an all too ephemeral joy these days. Remarkable how well the ability to recall all the hidden secrets is after so many years. Why so ingrained is the memory, after recollecting the first Mario Land, I literally turned it on and beat the game in one sitting. And though reminiscences may be sweet, they are only slivers of the experience. I would have to say that my favorite parts of this game are the moon levels and Wario's castle. Both classic adventures of Mario and the small screen.
This game is an early introduction of Wario, Mario's evil nemesis. Here Mario must battle through six level to achieve the golden coins necessary to unlock the way to Wario's Castle. The levels are relatively easy to blast through for the average gamer. For a circa-90s game on the Nintendo Gameboy, it is very good. The rebirth of the gameboy on GBA allows the nostalgic memories to return.

Here we go again. Super Mario Land 2 6 Golden Coins is GREAT and it really makes your kids think on what should I do or do next or even plan ahead. I'm almost 38 years old and I still love it. Mario is the best and it is 100% kid safe. I have all Mario Lands 1,2,3, and 4 and if you think you will see mine on E-Bay, I just have to say 3 words "FOR GET IT" Get your own game, it's worth it and something to do on a cold snowy day. Thank you Michael in Colorado Springs,CO
