When the Super Nintendo first came out, this game became an instant hit. It brought a lot of new life to the Mario series. We met new features and new characters; but, was this game good enough to be revitalized for the GBA? In a simply answer, yes. Anyone who played the Mario games growing up will jump at the chance to get this game. It's the exact way it was when it was first released. This game is fun because in many ways, it follows the formula from Super Marios Bros. 3. Mario has a variety of power-ups and you can sort of pick and choose where to go to on the world map. Plus, there are hidden levels to find. There's a lot to complete in this game and the journey is definitely fun. As I said, this game has gone unchanged - the sound, the graphics, the gameplay are all the same. The lack of change, though, is a good thing because many of us long for the nostalgia of playing games we played when we were younger. I recommend this game for anyone who has played it and yearns for another go, as well as younger fans who were too young to rememeber this or earlier games. Today I still feel that this is the best side scrolling Mario adventure to date.
Super Mario games are to the game industry what bribes are to politicians. The politicians don't necessarily need the bribes, but when you think of one, you inherently think of the other. Mario has been a staple of the gaming world since 1985 and save for all the ridiculous spin-offs, not much has changed. If you met the pudgy plumber after he'd made his way into the 3D realm, then you haven't been gaming for all that long and it may come as a surprise that old 2D pieces from the beginning of a console generation over a decade ago could be fun. This isn't a matter of "well, it was the funnest thing we had BACK THEN" so much as it was just genuinely fun on every front and holds up fantastically today.
To many, the Gameboy Advance is more like a tiny Super Nintendo than anything else, which is why it was surprising for Nintendo not to release Super Mario World right off the bat. Still, they got around to it and it is pretty awesome. This game had top-notch graphics at the time and still hold up well today with a keen art style and nice polish to everything around. The music is still perky, the enemies still threatening in the cutest way possible... and most importantly, all the core game mechanics of Mario are here. Jump, swim, fly, jump some more.... This game consists of dozens of levels, alternate paths, secret worlds... its replayability is fantastic because just playing the game through once isn't a quick or easy task.
Since the release of New Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo DS, sales of this cart have really shot up so don't expect to get a bargain price on it any time soon. Still, if you have to pay the full retail or even a couple dollars over, you will not feel ripped off. This game is top-notch, and every GBA owner should have a copy. I don't say that lightly.
Honestly compared to other games, this one is the best. I know the first one was a good one because it started the mario corporation, but this one was the next major step toward the mario indusrty. Face it Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 are no match match for the Super Mario World. Those first 3 games were good for the NES, but Super Mario World is the best. Okay enough with the best thing lets get down to business.
Graphics.
Graphics in this remade version for the GBA are way better than of those in the SNES. Obviosly you would see that they have added more colors to the gameplay and more surroundings in the background. Also they have renderd the game just a bit so that Mario looks a bit 3D-ish looking. Overall graphics get a 5/5 for the reason that this was one of the first mario games that came out for the SNES and the GBA.
Sound
Sound isnt all that new, few of the World songs have been a remade. There isn't a lot to the sound since it is a GBA game so I rate it a 4/5.
Gameplay
Like said in the intro. Best Mario Game Ever!!!. This game is one of the games that lets you go back and redo the Mission again. I don't know if anyone wants to do that, but there are a few that are awsome and definatley would retry. This game has a fun stoy line to it. And Having to go through the worlds with you is Mario and Luigi your two heros and a new character named Yoshi..Well not so new but when this game first came out he was. Well anyways this game has a fun and entertaining gameplay which is fun to play if your bored at work, waiting for your next class, catching the bus, or just lonely. Get this game and you will kill time. I rate this section over all 5/5.
Grand total of 5/5 for the whole game.
I would recommend this game for everyone. Even though its a step down from the Nintendo DS system, but its a darn good game. This game would also make a great christmas gift for little kids out there.
Enjoy
This game was an instant classic when it was first released for the SNES. The GBA version does this game justice by enhancing the graphics and color detail. This has to be one of my all time favorite games!
this game has been one of my top favorites from the days of my childhood. absolutely wonderful, to say it better... a classic!!! the last time this game was released for the public was for the SNES back in the early 90's. There have been a few changes in the game , mainly sound and the way Yoshi's appear to what kind of Mario you have. none of these changes ruin the game at all, the sound is just more crisp. If you have never played this game you have missed out on so much, i recommend buying it today, do not wait. And for the people who played it 15 years ago... what are you waiting for? an invitation? BUY IT NOW!!
