Great movie for a niche audience. Mainstream movie goers will prefer the more formulaic "Kick-A$$" because while "Super" is more gritty and realistic, simple fare like "Kick-A$$" follow the studio-driven format that sells tickets. "Super" is a better film in acting, plot, and dialogue. The characters are deeply flawed and troubled individuals who resonate real emotions and motivations and the drama is believable despite the ridiculous premise. The film is not for children as the violence in it is often disturbing. Ellen Page is fantastic as "Boltie" and her character and performance outperform Chloe Moretz's "Hit-Girl". This movie has the same type of appeal as "Watchmen" in that a smaller group of die-hard fans will genuinely love the film while the majority of movie goers will want the formulaic structure of numerous and badly written super-hero films such as "Captain America" and "Thor".
This movie was a darker approach to the super hero genre. It is entertaining but it is not for the light hearted or conservative, and by that I mean that you should not watch this movie if you're expecting to see something like Captain America or The Avengers. This is dark, indie, and is about a crazy person who puts on a costume and hits criminals with a pipe wrench. It's weird. It's not for kids. "Shut up crime."
i love ellen page in this wacky film about a depressed husband (rainn wilson) who decides to become a superhero and do battle with an evil drug dealer (kevin bacon kicking mortal but) page is perfect as wilson's sidekick, boltie. worth the time to watch and pickup.
As much as I like Reinn Wilson in the office, the movie was not that good. I thought it was going to be full of action with funny jokes but it ended up being a bit sick with people bleeding to death and somewhat comical scenes. Ellen Page stunk as the side kick because she was annoying and was a bit perverted in the film. It was great but to to great that I only watched it once and maybe someday I will watch it again.
I really enjoyed Super, Raiin Wilson displays a level of acting that is on another level. I would have to say that the shining star of the movie is Kevin Bacon, he just stole the show everytime he was on the screen.
For those who are saying this is a Kick-a$$ rip-off, the truth is the screenplay for this movie was written 6 years before the comic book ever came out.
