At last, all three original movies are together in one DVD collection! I myself, plus many other fans, have been waiting a long time for this! While it is true that no new material was released, it is great to have these three together in one slim package. As for the movies themselves, they are Star Wars, which for me is quite enough reason to buy this trilogy. However, if you are looking for a lot special features, you won't find them here. You merely get directors' commentaries. The original theatrical release may be nice to have, though.
When I was a kid, I had the vhs boxed set (the blue one) of the original theatrical releases. When I heard about this over a year ago, it was a limited edition printing. I'm so happy to have it now at such a great price. I haven't even watched disc 1 in any of the trilogy. Each movie has 2 discs. Disc 1 is the re-mastered (re-re-mastered on Return of the Jedi) and Disc 2 (labeled Bonus Disc in each box) is the original theatrical release from 77, 81 and 83. It was Fantastic. Exactly what I was looking for. If you're a collector, you'll definitely want this since it was/is the only time the un-altered trilogy will ever be on dvd, and I highly doubt they will make a bluray version due to the quality of recording in the late 70s. 11/10 - utterly amazing!
This is a really nice set overall if you just focus on the special edition version of the films. It includes some additional updates for the original three movies so they are better in line with the Prequal trilogy. However, I was very disappointed in the poor quality of the original theatrical releases of the films. This was the primary reason I got the set. I was hoping for the remastered originals that were released on video back in 1997 but the quality is just horrible in the letterbox format. George Lucas really dropped the ball on this one.
Its STAR WARS whats not to like about it did not really care for the Lucas updated version .I am old school and glad that it had the original version of all three!
Star Wars Original .... the best you will ever get.... us older (wizer) ones know the value of the 1st 3 Star Wars... nothing compares.. the new ones not even close... AWESOME....Harder to find the 1st 3 on disc... get them you will not be dissapointed....
