This is a controversial Star Trek TNG movie, the last movie that will feature the crew of the Enterprise "as seen on TV," because in the end, Riker leaves to take his own command and Data meets his demise (maybe). It is a highly sophisticated plot, featuring -- and I love this -- the first beautiful, painfully beautiful, brilliantly beautiful, Star Trek villain since Kahn. Shinzon, a younger and damaged clone of Piccard, is an elegant and twisted adversary who navigates a pained course between enemy and victim with graceful intensity. Extraordinary SFX and labyrinthine plot twists raise tantalizing questions of selfhood, the enemy within, the friend in unexpected places.
Some of the acting on the part of the Enterprise crew players is less than committed in parts (Tom Hardy, playing the excruciatingly nuanced Shinzon, puts them to shame) and some scenes are a little too talky, but despite these flaws, I think this film elevates the entire Star Trek film subgenre with philosophical questions that range beyond the Roddenberry frontier.
I am in the minority in lauding this movie. While it is a must-have for a Star Trek collector, many fans felt let down by a plot model that concentrates less on the Enterprise gestalt and more on the plot, the antagonist and the action. It had a decidedly underwhelming reception at the box office. The DVD, unfortunately not a director's cut, enhances the package considerably. It is loaded with truly fine extras which offer a lot of juicy TNG dish. If you get a good price on this DVD, I recommend it highly.
When I first watched it with friends, they were disapointed, well Star Trek is not like "Matrix" anyway. Me being somewhat familiar with franchise felt to it like it was good ST movie but not to the match TNG-last-movie must be. Well after some time I have rewatched it and my impression turn out to be higher than before. This movie getting better the more you see it. I start to notice some unnoticed good points in it. The whole idea fot this movie is great. Besides it very smart movie: battle scenes have some real tactics in it
and play of Picard vs Shinson is something of high quality. But some scenes are completely unnecessary. For example that scene on the planet gathering B4 - its dumb and stupid it makes no sense. I tell you it was made just for action but action without sense and purpose - is stupid action. They better make that scene few minutes long just to show what they have found (B4) on the surface. And more other time spend on the crew so movie wouldn't be so Picardocentrical.
Anyway its a good movie and if not for the minor lacking in scenery it would be 5 stars - to support even movies tradition.
I already have about five 2DVD Col Ed Star Trek movies - and they all are great. Just a lot of stuff to whatch and listen. So Col Ed of NEMESIS add a half of star to final score making it 4.5 - worth to picking it out _\\//

I bought this DVD mostly because its Star Trek, and the Next Generation portion of the Star Trek series is superb. Nemesis does not shine as brightly as First Contact or Insurrection by any means, but still holds its own as a Star Trek film. Supposedly it is the last film in the Next Generation series, which is very sad, but at the same time I feel like it was a somewhat pleasing ending. I highly recommend this for any Trek fan, and for everyone else, it's still a pretty fun ride, just depends on how much you love Patrick Stuart and Brent Spiner, as for me there's no question there.
I really enjoyed the plot of Nemesis, with both Captain Picard and Data having doppelgangers to deal with, not to mention the Romulans. I liked seeing the characters starting to move on in their lives, seeing some old friends return from the past (Guinan) to help other character celebrate the start of new lives together. The ending was spectacular and shocking but left room for hope for TNG fans. I bought it because for some unknown reason I missed seeing it when it came out in theaters.
Although ALOT better than STAR TREK: INSURRECTION (absolutely the worst star trek movie EVER, and a horrible movie besides) this doesn't really bail out the series. The next generation peaked at First Contact which was a very good movie. This one has some high points, like crashing the enterprise e into the enemy ship, but the "bad guy" is kind of a joke. If you want good STAR TREK you gotta go with Captain Kirk and Mr Spock! Hands down. The next best would be the next generation series or First Contact. Only buy this movie if it's dirt cheap, or HAVE to have a complete movie collection, but I would avoid Insurrection AT ALL COSTS! LOL!
