Movie synopsis
The first of the nine STAR TREK films to feature largely computer-generated special effects and is again directed by Number One, Jonathan Frakes. While on a survey mission, Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise stumble on a conspiracy originating high up the Starfleet chain of command that involves a distressing plan of ethnic cleansing. On a remote planet, a small, peaceful race of human-like beings called the Ba'ku seems to be immune to the ravages of aging. Head bad-guy F. Murray Abraham leads another race for which exposure the planet's radiation is the only cure for an advanced state of degeneration, and, using clandestine Starfleet connections, arranges to wipe out the Ba'ku unless the Enterprise has anything to say about it.

NEVER DISAPPOINTS

Review For: Star Trek: Insurrection (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Collector's Edition)

What can I say about the third movie installment of The Next Generation crew. Hmmm... Great!! I have seen this movie several times, and the interpersonal relationships among the Next Generation crew never disappoint. In this movie addition, these relationships are the best part of the movie. The crew have always shown great humor, and it is just as evident here. You do not have to be familiar with the series to enjoy the character humor, but if you are a fan, you will easily appreciate (and thoroughly laugh at) the nuances and comedic digs of this crew.

The story line continues to move, and does not leave you wanting. (There are a couple of slow points, but they move on rather quickly). The graphics, sound, and special effects continue to improve from one movie to the next, and you don't even have to think about HD.

The main plot, as well as the underlying story lines, are wonderful and surprising. If you have never seen this movie, you are in for a treat.

Satisfying

Review For: Star Trek: Insurrection (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Collector's Edition)

Star Trek: Insurrection has received a lot of criticism from Star Trek fans. It doesn't compare well with the previous film, Star Trek: First Contact, and has been rightfully criticized for being little more than a two-part episode of the series and for being not serious. Roger Ebert even claimed that the moral fight which the characters take up and which forms the basis of the plot is not worth fighting.

Many of these criticisms are just. Indeed, the movie is hardly "epic", especially compared to Star Trek: First Contact, it leans closer to comedy than action or drama, and it very much resembles an episode of the series. But that's what makes the film great. This is the only Next Generation film where the characters resemble the people they were in the series and where their relationships are accounted for. It is the film that best captures the essence of the series and of Star Trek on the big screen. The film is indeed very light fare, but the humor is spot on and it's a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Admittedly, it might not appeal to non-fans of the series. But for those who enjoyed the series and the characters in it, this is the only Next Generation film that succeeds in truly capturing what made the show great.

Star Trek on its way down

Review For: Star Trek: Insurrection (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Collector's Edition)

I picked this one up because I had collected almost the entire silver boxed two disc collection and with the new Trek coming out those editions were becoming more scarce. This one was definitely one of the more sub par movies of all of them. I say almost because nothing is as terrible as Star Trek 5. It really just acted like a 2 hour episode of Star Trek TNG more than like one of the major motion pictures. Anyways, worth having as part of a collection.

Insurrection

Review For: Star Trek: Insurrection (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Collector's Edition)

I really like this dvd; I love anything Star Trek, anyway, but the characters are fleshed out a little more (may be sappy to some!) which I enjoyed; humor and wit are interlaced in the story line as well; predictable plot, but otherwise, very engrossing film!! thumbs up I say!!

Awesome

Review For: Star Trek: Insurrection (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Collector's Edition)

This is a pretty entertaining Star Trek Movie. It's not the best one made ( First Contact gets that awarcd) , but it is still a good buy. Highly recommended for all trekkies or sci-fi fans.
