Star Trek: Conquest (Wii)
Created: 01/21/08
I struggled with the exact rating to give this product I found myself between Average and Good so I guess 3.5 out of 5 is right on the mark. It does some things right, like when your fleet arrives in a system to do battle, the music and camera work is spot on, especially if your fleet is huge. The arcade style combat option is allot of fun (watching a Cardissian Union Fleet mop up the Federation idealists never gets old). The action is pretty fast paced and there is enough races and planets to keep things different for awhile.
The game is simple enough to be picked up by anyone and played, and the Wii mote makes for a great mouse substitute. Upgrades are bought with "research points", from facilities you create. Fleets and structures are bought with "Credits" that are generated from captured systems. Systems are captured with your fleets, you can have three such fleets with admirals that have different strengths and weaknesses.
The starships in the game have a rock paper scissors feel to them, and each race has three that they can select from. Fast nimble Scouts (B'Rel Class Birds of Prey for the Klingons) are slapped down by the balanced cruisers (Voyeger Class for the Federation) and the heavily armed/armored slow dreadnoughts (Galor Class for the Cardassians) have trouble against swarms of scouts. There are Racial Differences in how the ships perform as well. Federation ships are well rounded, Cardassian Ships have better protection and are less expensive but have weaker weapons and are slower, Klingons are fast and well armed, but have glass jaws and are cheap to replace. This gives the races some variety and changes how each one is played.
However, in my estimation the Trek license is wasted. Continuity of the series is thrown out the window as is any attempt at a story. There are some locations on the map (Such as DS9, an extremely powerful starbase) that can be captured to give your player race and advantage, but there are only 2 such locales. There is not enough verity in the ships and structures that can be bought. And this game is a one player experience only. Honestly I like it cause it’s still fun, but it’s shallow and feels a little like shovelware. It feels like a dumbed down version of “Star Trek: Birth of the Federation” (a 90’s Microprose title for the PC).
YMMV

A game only a Trekkie would love.

This is a rare game, difficult to obtain. It is basically an electronic risk-type board game based in the Star Trek universe. The player picks one of 6 races and attempts to conquer the galaxy by fighting for control of each system on the map.
There is no support for local or online multiplayer, so you are very limited in what you can do. It really reminds me of games that were seen back in the NES days, simple yet entertaining. Gameplay is smooth and it flows rather well, the AI can be quite challenging at the higher difficulty levels.
I purchased this game b/c quality Star Trek titles are few and far between. If you want a canonical title that fits within the Star Trek universe then this probably isn't one for you, but if you just want some entertainment using phasers, torpedos and warp speed it could be right up your alley. I will be keeping this game for a long time.

Star Trek and Wii...A Great Combination.
Created: 02/26/10
This item is a Wii platform game based on characters and situations from the 1990's era Star Trek TV programs.
Choose your command character and ship (or ships) and engage in a space battle (Phasers, photon torps...) immediately...Conquest is a fast-paced game, yet easy for a beginner to quickly gain confidence and become engrossed in the action.

Disappointed with Conquest
Created: 09/10/08
I am disappointed with this game. I was hoping for the complexity of Colonization or Civilization, but Conquest lacks complexity and detail. There are a very limited set of options for each race, and you are limited to 3 admirals per race. Game play graphics are disappointing, considering what potential was there.
