The Sony STR DE197 receiver is an inexpensive, uncomplicated, easy to set up component and very well suited for our needs. If you are looking for something that can blow out your eardrums and offer a ton of features, this receiver is not for you. However, this has neatly tied together a 25" stereo TV, VCR, DVD player, dual tape deck and a CD carousel player for our family room. We are using BOSE Model 201 bookshelf speakers, and they are ideally suited for the setup, and pump out excellent sound.
This receiver is brilliant in it's simplicity! For my money you can't beat the sound of a 2 channel receiver through a couple of big speakers! You can keep your 5.1 ,6.1,7,2 or whatever is the next expensive "must have" thing in audio equipment.
THE RECEIVER LOOKS BRAND NEW. I NEEDED SOMETHING TO PLAY CDs, LISTEN TO FM RADIO, PLAY MP3 THROUGH AND USE AS A HOME THEATER SYSTEM WITH A PAIR OF BOSE 901s AND A 58" PANASONIC VIERA LCD PLASME TV. THIS PRODUCT SERVES ALL MY NEEDS BEAUTIFULLY. THANK YOU!*****
FM input is coax and AM input is twinax. This is different from most.
Navigating FM stations and putting them in memory positions takes a lot of trial and error without the instruction book.
I bought it because I have confidence in Sony Products. It work very well, but the volume know has a very stiff feel, perhaps because it's supposed to work with remote control. Other than that it is a very good amplifier for the money.
