Short lived simplicity in a market pushing fad junk functionality...

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Battery Life: Phenomenal, provided you keep things at 128 bit, 15 sec screen off, lowest brightness, and no sound enhancements. Even with, longer than most players. BTW, the next E-series for 2012 cut this down for minimal weight and form gains, making this better than their latest model.

Features: I don't like rating systems, and this doesn't have one! In place of stars, you can bookmark songs to 5 bookmark lists, so you can have each as a separate mix list of tunes you like for various occasions.

The sense technology is interesting, but I'm not a huge fan of it as it can't determine moods by anything less than the instrumentals, but still mixes things up. Custom Wallpaper functionality is something I always like in a player with color screen.

Using their MediaGo program, you can set the player to auto-convert to 128 bit files. My issues in this is in my having issues where some cover art images do no transfer (ones manually added).

My confusion is why there is no ability to update the program on the player, or no updates in general to improve the player functions. I notice the 2012 E-series 475 now adds 2 simple games. The reduced battery life for minimal weight loss does not make me interested in a Tetris or Sudoku clone.

The cord costs $15 from them should you need a new one. They will sell you one for an iPod even cheaper. What the...?

MDR-EX083 Headphones included. They make the sound what it is. However, not good for falling asleep with the unit on. Recommend also obtaining Rock'n Buds MDR-EX10LP series (color options available) or MDR-G45LP if you hate the idea of in-ear puds. Both have served me well with this player and depending on how I feel, environment, etc I do switch between all three.

Design: It is light for the capacity and battery longevity. Not the smallest player, but you don't need to have a device thinner than this. Height could be reduced but is not needed, else the button placement becomes questioned.

The display area is easily scratched. -1 star for that. I hate being forced to buy skins or protectors. The entire market of it is a waste of resources.

If you wanted to you could buy a cellphone/usb lanyard and ware the unit. It has a spot to loop lock lanyards or cellphone stuff.

Buttons are VERY easily hit in pockets. It has a Hold feature to lock the buttons, but even it can at times snag and be undone.

Overall: Compared to other models I was seeing, and the fact that this market is seeing a lot of stupidity in designs or function -adding costs, adversely affecting simple functionality, or the price for the quality is crazy; I feel this unit is very well rounded.

Additionally: I'm a little disappointed that the NWZ-E475BLK will be replacing this, as the E465 is in no way made obsolete by the E475. However, I was also disappointed when SANDISK replaced SANSA CLIP with the CLIP+ that reduced battery for form/weight, and then decided to replace that with one featuring a color screen nobody wanted/needed on it! That's why I decided on the E465! A simple player with good batter life, decent weight/form, and GREAT CAPACITY!! The entire market is hit and miss these days, it is sad.

Better than either the E385 or E475.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Bought this to replace a Sony NWZ-E385 which mysteriously ceased to hold a charge. This reminds me a lot of the NWZ-E475 I had before that got stolen from me on the bus, which was why I bought the E385. This is loads better than either of those. The E475 was thinner and had a very exposed headphone jack, if you plugged phones in it you could still see exposed bit of plug from the back. The E465 has a nice little nub of plastic that covers that exposed area.

The E465 has 50 hours of battery, whereas E385 and E475 only had a 30 and 36 hour battery life, respectively. Back on the E385, you didn't have the VPT or DSEE sound effects which added more clarity to the music (Studio for VPT, and DSEE set to ON), but they're still here on the E465. Also those effects did not affect the radio portion of the player on the E385, but here on the E465, they do. Given the differences between radio station volumes, it's very necessary that AVL still affect radio and it's especially nice to still have the other effects if you're using the FM feature to pick up sound from your computer via a USB FM transmitter, like I do (I like to plug the player into speakers and listen to Shoutcast stations in the kitchen).

The screen on the E385 was definitely cut back and very pixelated, but on the E465, it's super clear. Also the buttons were harder to press but the buttons on the E465 are butter smooth. Also good is that the Option button is actually "Power Off" instead of being combined to Hold like on the E385, that got very frustrating and confusing. Volume and Hold are back to being proper buttons on the side of the player.

The only thing I don't like very much about this player are the earbuds. It comes with the MDR-EX083 with the plastic tips, these pretty much have _zero_ low end to them, your best bet to get back some of that bass you're gunna be missing is to replace those with a set of the MDR-EX85 LP or MDR-EX82 LP if you can find them. You'll recognize them by the silver nubs on the backs.

Btw, if you're passionate about this topic, please view my thread on Sony's forums.

Best Mp3 Player I've Ever Had!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

You will not regret purchasing this handy dandy Sony mp3 player. It, in my opinion, is the best mp3 player around and can easily be compared to the ipod nano (6th Generation). This mp3 player was released around the same time the Walkman S545 was, so the 2 are compared frequently. Even though the Walkman S-545 has external speakers, the screen is .4" bigger, and the mp3 player itself is bigger, the E-465 has customizable features that the S-545 does not offer like setting the background to any picture you like. It also has longer battery life for both Songs (6 hours more) and Videos (4 hours more) than the S-545.

The menu on this little machine is sharp compared to the S-545 and looks a lot cleaner and not so yellow!

This is what the doctor orderd !

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I love this player, I cancelled my satellite radio subscription and bought this Sony player, I have already over 2000 songs loaded and still have 3.6 GB of space left. I use it at work instead of the radio. I can listen 10 hours a day of music 5 day a week for a whole month and not hear the same song twice. try that Radio...! The battery life will run for a couple of days this is great because I also use it on my Street Glide. It has a Aux port, I just plug in and enjoy my whole music library and don't have to worry about radio station loss or a CD skipping. The battery life range is 40 or 50 hrs and i-pod is maybe 3 or 4 hrs at best. The 16GB and the long battery life is why I bought this player.!

Fantastic quality and value!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Easy to operate, high capacity, incredible! Light as a feather, and easily connects to other electronics including car mp3 player, and portable xm radio. Has several ways to find songs, albums and artists of interest, Can easily add or delete music from your pc. Battery life is phenomenal. Unbeatable value from Sony!
