| When looking for a professional video camera, the Sony HVR Z7U is a great option. It features interchangeable lenses, which is one of the first handheld camcorders to offer this as an option. This 1.1 MP camcorder comes packed with plenty of other features, such as recording in either high-definition or standard definition, up to 12x optical zoom, screw holes for secure attachment to a tripod, and a high-quality Carl Zeiss lens. Additionally, this Sony camcorder offers HD/SD-SDI or HDMI output and records on miniDV cassette tapes which can hold 40–60 minutes of high-definition video. The viewing screen on the Sony HVR Z7U is a 3.2-inch Xtrafine LCD, which provides up to four times more pixels than other handheld professional video cameras. Slow motion is no problem with this 1.1 MP camcorder, since the Smooth Slow Rec feature records images much faster than other cameras. Color correction has been improved in this Sony camcorder, resulting in better visual quality in both black and white and color videos. Six different settings are available to capture the best appearance based on the location and light balance. Professional videographers will be pleased with the myriad of new and unique features on the Sony HVR Z7U. | |

This is the ultimate camcorder at this time. Interchangeable lens capability sets this in a class by itself. I bought an adapter to use Nikon SLR camera lenses for special effects. (Sony sells an adapter that works with its Alpha SLR lenses, as well.) Controls are professional all the way. Images are incredible. The dual-recording to tape, chip, or both is great. I've dropped the tape recording and now use just the compact flash recording. The CF chips are really cheap and make editing on the computer a snap. I think this may be the last professional/prosumer camera that Sony makes with tape drive. It's great for back-up, though. Beats out anything in the AVCHD category, and most HDV cameras out there (IMHO).
This is one of the best professional cameras out there that i know. its ease to you and professional quality at the retail price makes this number one. i would recommend.
I absolutely love this camera. Records to both tape and card media and has a removable lens. Image quality is superb and is made with professional shooters in mind.
I have three Sony HVR-Z7U camcorders and that's the way to go for tapeless videoing. Picture quality is excellent. The only negative is the on/off switch. It is difficult to turn off without switching to VCR. Sony should have caught that problem before putting it in the market.
Amazing camera on low light, the 24p is amazing easy the use a bit heavy but looks awesome on my glidecam x-10
