Although this is a DVD player, I purchased it with the sole intent of playing MUSIC. Having both coaxial and toslink outputs made it versatile. It will indeed play conventional CD's just fine,............but it will NOT recognize CD-R's.
Having about 3200 recordings, two thirds of which ARE CD-R's, this is defintely an issue given the seller clearly represented in the listing CD-R compatibility.
In terms of video usage, many of the advanced features emphasized in the listing (and indeed incorporated such as color equalizer or zooming) cannot be accessed from the from the front panel ...............but only from a remote. I learned this after downloading a PDF of the lacking operation manual off Sony's site. Although a remote was mentioned and thus implied in the listing there was NONE included. Therefore, to simply access titles or fast forward (yet alone freeze/repeat) requires getting up and walking across the room to press a panel button. HIGHLY inconvenient to say the least.
I can go to Wal-Mart 24/7 and buy a NEW, full functioning Chinese DVD player WITH a remote control (and TV tuner) for 50 bucks.
All in all the Sony unit is of little use to me toward music OR video. Accordingly, it will be put in storage. In a few years, after being tired of shuffling it around (and having forgotten about the wasted money) I will toss it in the trash.
you get sony quality like always BUT one of the main reasons i also bought this was to play cds on it and it DOESN'T play burned cd's or cd-r's. you win some and lose some. playback is amazing though, p until now i have not had it skip on me at all, has a bit of trouble reading scratched disks but i bought a used one so i cant really comment on that
i got it to get spare parts and to re sell it to a customer, no other reason as to why to buy a product that was old enough and has no compatibility with other dvd systems like pal system and other region systems
Seems to work right all but on my homemade dvd's. It's surround sound so maybe needs better material to grab from. Seems good and I think these were 250 dollars new. I got it for 37 or so used and at my door!
This DVD player is exactly what I needed for my bedroom. It is small enough to sit on my chest of drawers beside my TV, and has all the features of a larger DVD player.
