I love my Sony DVP-FX820/P DVD Player 8in. It is amazing. I love the easy buttons on the screen panel and how the screen swivels in a 180. My son and I watch movies in bed sometimes so we LOVE the remote control and I take it with us just in case he needs some ting else to focus on. A few months ago my son decided the player needed to drink some milk! I only discovered it after it had been sitting for awhile. Milk poured out of it in am amazing stream. I was very excited to be able to replace the player on ebay without having to spend a lot of money and with out all the extras as I had them already.
This is my first portable DVD player and I am very pleased. Have not extensively tested battery life yet, but used the player on a plane for at least 2 hours and battery indicator still showed full. Screen swivel feature is very nice, especially for viewing on lap or airplane tray tables. The screen resolution is higher than most and the difference is striking. Compared a similar model Sony with the same screen size and resolution to several other players at Best Buy and it really stood out. I was concerned about the screen being too small but the 8" seems to strike a good balance between good close-up viewing and portability. Plays both full screen and wide aspect movies very clearly. Remote control is excellent and the TV output is very clear. Used with a cheap, standard aspect hotel TV and my 50" Sony DLP wide screen. Results on both were very good. This is a great player. It would have been nice to have a backlight on the control buttons and the four way button for navigating menus is a little tricky, but these are very minor problems.
This DVD player was purchased to replace both our broken Ventura DVD players (failed electronics - not from misuse). It works well so far and hopefully the Sony quality holds out :) Basically my recommendation is not to buy any top brand electronics such as Coby, Insignia, etc. as the quality is just not there to last more than a year :)
DVP-FX820 is excellent dvd player. There are many reason to choose over other sony models.
1. DVP-FX820 has higher resolution than the older DVP-FX810.
2. DVP-FX820 has optical out while the newer models DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930 eliminated.
3. Pricing is better than models DVP-FX730 and DVP-FX930.
4. Player can be recharged while watching DVD.
I don't like I love It . I decide to buy it, this is necessaires for everybody have D V D player at home.
