I love this camera. I have already owned two of them. (Actually, I still own two others, but they have gotten significant amounts of dust inside the camera body and onto the sensor, so photos of skies or white walls, etc. end up having large dark spots on them that must be photoshopped out.) I have searched and searched for an equivalent point and shoot digital camera, and own a couple others, but none has ever been like this one. All the cameras made now have significant noise reduction software built in that blurs out edge detail. Until someone decides to make a mid-range priced camera without NR or with at least the manual ability to turn it off, I'll keep coming back to this Sony dsc p200. Takes amazingly detailed, sharp macro shots from as close as about 3 cm. Amazing. It's sturdy solid metal and feels just heavy enough in the hand. It also lacks other frivolous extras like smile detection and face recognition. It's fast and only needs care taken in how you store it, because dust can be a big problem for this little guy. I hope someday to find a replacement model that is currently sold, because I'm afraid I can only buy used replacements for a couple more years before they are all gone too.
I have 3 Digital camera's 2 Sony's and 1 Kodak.
The DSC-P200 by far takes great photos is super easy to use and with a 1 GB MS can take hundreds of pictures.
Battery life is great and after a full charge gives you more than 200 min of Picture taking Time ( which for me equates to a weeks worth).
Its a very small but easy to handle camera, and because it is so small it can be carried your shirt pocket or on your side next to your cell phone without any worrys, the Screen is Nice and Big 2" size and it is VERY clear and does not break up when moving into a brighter area unlike my Kodak 310 which has a very pixilized screen when going from dark to light. Sony's CCD is perfect, the colors that are taken with the DSC-P200 are right on, bright and without fade. Pictures printed on Photo paper look pleasing and very well defined with the correct color balance.
Cons: The ONLY thing that I find to be a downside to this great camera is the "Special" USB / Video transfer cable. It is Non-standard so you can't just use a mini-usb cable if you lost or broke your cable if on a trip, and from what I can tell it's a special order cable from Sony. This cable is a USB to a Duel RCA Video out & Propriatory Sony Adapter that gets pluged in the bottom of the camera. The only other minor thing is the cheap way they have the DC IN door cover, very poor as it can be broken off easy if your not careful.
I hope that helps everyone - My recommendation is Despite the A/V cable and DC door is to BUY it. The Sony DSC-P200 is a great camera for the price and the pros far out way the cons. You can't go wrong with this camera
My first digatail camera, after research I found All the controls are just where they should be. You insert the battery only once and thereafter it charges right inside the camera. The LCD screen is covered with a clear plastic panel, so there is no chance of scratching it. You can take pictures from 1 megapixel all the way up to the 7.2 megapixels. With the close-up setting, you can get as close as two inches to the subject. As with most point & shoot cameras, this one auto-focuses and adjusts automatically to virtually all lighting conditions. By the way, this camera also shoots movies with sound. The camera is elegant and its sleek body fits nicely in the hand. All in all the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 7.2 Megapixel.
I bought a digital camera a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for something better then I already had. Before I searched on ebay, I looked up digital camera reviews on google. I came to the Steves Digital Camera reviews website, and I looked up reviews on 6 MP and higher and saw a review on the Sony Cyber-shot CSC-P 200 7.2 MP point and shoot camera. The review was one of very few cameras that were "Highly Recommended". That got me interested in that particular camera. I then went to ebay, searched for that camera, and found many to choose from. I ended up purchasing a "buy now" camera that was a factory refurbished. Although it didn't come in the original box, it came with everything that was included in the original factory container. I am happy to say that the camera is everything that I expected after reading the review, and I am very happy about my purchase. Especially because I only paid 200 bucks plus 20 bucks shipping. This is a great little camera, and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a small, easy to use, easy to hold digital camera that takes great pictures. And it's pretty cheap too, especially for a 7.2 megapixel camera!
Great little camera. Performs most of the functions of high end big sized digital cameras at fraction of cost and the convenience to carry around like a cell phone. I was amazed at the clarity, sharpness and color reproduction I got from the first few sessions, while I still needed to master all its functions to the their best potential. There was a review by one user that I read on this site which criticized the camera for taking oversized pictures. The user was ignorant of the fact that the size of pictures can be adjusted. I have also used Kodak V550, another very remarkable camera, which compared to this one is very easy to use. But make no mistake this one is capable of lot more, however you need to read its user's manual and learn lot more to put it to its best possible use. If you are thinking of investing in this camera have no doubts whatsoever. It will really pease you.
