I loved how easy it was to use this camera. Right from the get-go, I was able to figure out how to adjust the settings (it has full manual, adjustable automatic, and two full automatic settings which each have some easy-to-understand ways of adjusting the final result of the photo). There is also a setting that lets you take sharp photos with a blurry background - great for taking portraits of people.
I loved the video capability. I know it's standard nowadays, but it comes in handy, and the SD expansion slot means that I'm not feeling limited on how much video I can take on the average day. The video quality is excellent for a point-n-shoot - better than my Flip recorder.
What's really fun about this are the 3-D picture settings and the settings to take a panorama photo. You can even take a 3-D panorama, which is super! With so many computers offering a 3-D display nowadays, this is actually pretty cool for reliving vacations, and the panorama gets you that realtor-like width in your photos. I'm a landscaper, so plan to get a lot of use out of that feature.
Overall, an excellent point and shoot camera. While I'm used to my bigger Canon with fancy lenses, this gave me shockingly good photos and fits right in my pocket, so I'm excited about having a camera that I can carry with me on hikes without a lot of fuss.
My Sony DSC-HX20V takes great pictures, panorama and movies. I read many reviews on this camera along with specs and this is a well built camera, before I bought it on ebay at a great price The exmor cmos sensor and bionz processor does a fantastic job. This camera is loaded with features which are not that hard to learn. Superior auto is fantastic. You just point and shoot. Other than being a little heavy in my pants pocket I have no other dislikes. If you take movies and use the zoom the extra weigh helps to give better movies than the Sony 690 which is lighter and more compact I bought for my wife. I'm just a country boy photographer and these new cameras are so advanced than the one I bought 3 years ago. If you like taking panorama pictures this camera will spoil you. It does all the work internally and then shows you the picture. I do crop on the computer after I've downloaded them and they come out awesome. let me add that sony has a program called play memories which is loaded in the camera for you to put on your computer. I did not try other cameras as they all have their likes and dislikes. I really liked the panorama feature in this camera.
This camera was purchased as a replacement for a Panasonic that died with a failed ccd sensor. We have used the camera for about 2 months so far and are very pleased with it. The features that we like the most are the 20x zoom, advanced intelligent and superior auto settings and the 3D picture and 3D panoramic options. Battery life on a full charge gives a very ample supply of pictures and videos. Overall the camera is far superior to the Panasonic it replaced--many feature improvements over about 6 years.
The only thing I dislike so far is that the battery is charged by connecting the camera to the ac/usb adapter. The external battery charger must be purchased separately (which I did so we can still use the camera with a spare battery while the other one charges).
Camera worked as expected, I had a HX10V which is similar.
Good 20x zoom + digital zoom.
Excellent low light capability, processing/reaction time sometimes slow 2-3 seconds between shots in low light. But results better than canon.
Higher ISO 12800 than comparable Canon and Panasonic models.
Controls not as good as Canon model - should be able to set ISO in any mode which is not the case for Sony
Have owned 2 Cyber-Shots in the past and this one is the best ever.
The automatic settings work absolutely fantastic and the manual over rides for the more experienced camera buffs are just what the 'professional' ordered.
ISO(ASA) settings blow most cameras out of the water.
The flash is much more powerful than expected too.
Have already made some movie clips with this little dream camera that will be transferred to the 'big screen' and will appear in movies houses around the globe summer 2013.
