|The Sony CDP-CX400 is 400-disc player that helps in disk management as well. The Sonys CDP-CX400 is a reasonably fast and smooth CD changer that searches a track from any of the 400 CDs in a jiffy. The Mega Storage capability of this 400-disc player lets you link two units to access up to 800 CDs via one remote control. The Sonys CDP-CX400 CD Changer also features hybrid/pulse D/A converters for extremely low distortion and reduced signal interference.|

I had a 300 and a 400 changer and simply ran out of room, so bought another 400 changer. After a year, I've not had a second's problem with any of them, despite some of the reviews I had read. One remote can handle any of them by just switching the control on the top of the remote once you have set each machine as 1,2, or 3, which, unfortunately, takes a little close reading in the documentation.
Also unfortunately, you cannot well control them with Sony's advertised master-slave relationship, as it will not handle all the CD's (stupid). I solved that by just getting audio-jack Y-connectors and linking all three into the same input on my amp. This will actually feed all three inputs at once, mixing three songs, although that is really only a novelty.
Have not used the limited ability to type in titles--just made an Excell spreadsheet. I have used the Program grouping capability, but I think that will be nice--just haven't gotten around to it.
I have four of these CDP CX 400's, one purchased new obout 2000, has many solo hours on it, and has started to skip. Regardless of cleaning, still skips. Soon to be listed on the 'bay for parts. Two more in active service, both full, and routed digitally through an Audio Authority 1157 auto-sensing switcher, to a Forte Audio DAC. This allows for digital output in shuffle/no delay mode to a high quality DAC, and balanced outputs to the pre-amp and amps. The sound is beyond belief, effortless is the term that comes to mind. It does have a pause in the decoding when switching CD's, sometimes pops or misses the first beat of the song, but I feel that is a small price to pay for the superior sound of the external DAC. The sound quality of uncompressed files is far superior to MP3, used CD's are inexpensive, and the simplicity of loading CD's make this system the right one for me. Of course, I can't put four cubic feet of components in my pocket, but in my home, it runs all day. And then I have a fourth one, as backup for a mechanical failure, or for storage beyond 800.
First of all, this is my third CD changer; the first was the Sony 200 (over 12 years ago) which was not reliable (used to eat my CD's) and given away. Have two 400's now; have most of my CD's quickly accessible in a relatively small space (live in a NYC apartment). The 400's are unbelievebly reliable; nearly 6 years with the first one and no problems....period!
Note: the only way to chain/control them together is to have ALL Sony components (including amplifier) utilizing their Control-A1-II system. If you are using another manufacturer's amplifier, a simple AB switch from Radio Shack and grouping your CD's by category does the trick!
I found a junk one that needed repairs. after repeated bid losses Idecided to buy one. I like the player very much. I dont have many discs yet. but plan to buy more. Whatis nice is the capacity to continue playing without the changing of discs. I tried the naming of the discs as I had an extra keyboard. Now I can tell which disc is playing.Yes Iwould like to have another one. Ajunk one to play with or experiment with the idea I have. I like to fix or adapt devises for other uses.
Everything is as described except the playback of Mp3s..... not possible.
No big Deal....I'll just use "audio" plus "CD- Text". "CD - TEXT" is available thru most well known "Burner" Programs...
Negative reviews which include "blue internal light","Changer size",etc. , are really based on nothing special.
The CD capacity is great.....Price is fine......function is also fine.....
