This is a very solid blu-ray player that I have used on many installs and have yet to be let down. The netflix feature is nice and streams good quality movies directly to the TV. Many customers debate whether or not to step up to the N460 as they do not currently use netflix. The nice thing about this player is that not only does it play netflix, it also plays many other internet video and audio sources.
The only negative thing I have heard regarding this player is that it is not wifi. You can purchase a wifi link module, or there are other solutions if a Ethernet cable cannot be ran to the unit. However from my own experience the wifi blu-ray players do not perform as well as the hard wired players.
The player is very intuitive and the new cross-bar navigator can take you through all the different media formats easily.
This is a great blu-ray player to purchase for most customers, it future proofs you for upcoming media content, all your updates occur automatically over the internet (no burning update cds), and unless you need a 3D blu-ray player, really there is nothing better.
Sony did not disappoint it's many loyal consumers with this Blu-Ray player. I purchased this model so I could stream video from Netflix. But there is not just Netflix available to those who connect this player to the Internet via their high-speed modem/router. There are so many other offerings with the streaming capabilities of this model, to many to list here in fact.
Oh and the outstanding picture quality is consistent with most all Sony products we've come to expect and enjoy from this company.
To sum it up, if you're in the market for a Blu-Ray player that has video streaming ability, look no further. Sony's BDP-N460 Blu-Ray Player is a WINNER and you'll be glad you made this Sony part of your video-viewing experience.
I bought the Sony BDP-N460 Blu-Ray Player to go along with the new Sony BRAVIA HDTV I recently purchased. I like the compatibility of all the different components. My favorite feature is the ability to connect to the internet and stream NETFLIX, YOUTUBE, and other media content. I was disappointed with its refusal to play PAL converted discs.
Even though this BD Player is not 3D capable, it is a solid, dependable performer. It powers on pretty quick and has played every Blu-Ray and DVD movie perfectly. It also can play Hulu Plus, Netflix and other online streaming video and audio services. It updates itself automatically with the latest firmware to assure you of the greatest compatibility with current and new releases. I recommend the Sony BDP-N460 to anyone wanting to step up to Blu-Ray movie capability while waiting out the next generation of HDMI (1.4) specs and devices coming on the scene in the next year or so.
As an upconverting DVD player PLUS Blu-Ray PLUS Internet Content, I am very pleased. It plays our homemade copies very well and the picture quality in the upconversion is quite a noticeable improvement over my previous DVD. I don't have any pressing desire to use the Blu-Ray yet, but I just plugged it in today. The internet content seems like a good variety and looks good on the tube, but I've just looked at a few channnels. I have my unit hardwired to my router but the time it takes to download some of the video is long, with long 'buffering' periods in between on all channels. The unit also does upgrades over the internet, which is nice. The remote works well and also operates our Sony TV. We got a new unit for $75 off Sony's list price. All in all, we are pleased with this unit for the money paid.
