Truly an american classic, When a challenge is thrown down to the bandit (Burt Reynolds). To make a trip to Texas, from Atlanta and back in 28 hours. Loaded down with 400 cases of illigal Coors Beer. He enlist the help of his good friend Snowman (Jerry Reed), to make the trip with him. Along the way the Bandit picks up runaway bride Carrie (Sally Field). Trouble comes calling when her future father-in-law, the sheriff (Jackie Gleason). Starts to chase them from Texas. The movie is loaded with great one liners and great preformances. Not only a great Southren movie, but a great American Classic, and one of my favorite movies.

This movie is one of the classic high speed chase comedy movies.Burt is great as "The Bandit",as is Sally Field as "Frog",and Jerry Reed as "The Snowman".But Jackie Gleason steals the movie as "Sheriff Buford T. Justice of Texas".Plus, who could forget the black Trans Am.The story is simple in this movie.Bandit is hired (really a bet) to transport some Coors beer from Texas to Georgia in 28 hours.Unfortunately, due to federal liquor laws and state liquor tax regulations of the time, selling and/or shipping Coors east of the Mississippi River was considered bootlegging, and the truck drivers who had taken the bet previously had been discovered and arrested by "Smokey" (truck driver and CB slang for highway patrolmen). With Bandit as a "blocker" for Snowman and his rig filled with Coors they set out with numerous chase scenes to follow.A great comedy movie. In fact the film was the second highest grossing film of 1977, beaten only by Star Wars. Also included the popular Jerry Reed song "East bound and Down".Give it a watch.
I FOR ONE AN NOT A FAN OF ACTION MOVIES, BUT THIS IS JUST TOO GOOD TO MISS. I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS AT A YOUNG AGE AND HAVE LOVED IT SINCE. GREAT FOR ANY TRUCKER OR JSUT DOWN HOME KIND OF PERSON. JERRY AND BURT GO SO WELL TOGETHER IN THIS ACTION COMEDY. THEY HAVE TO OUTRUN THE LAW IN ORDER GET A SHIPMENT OF BEER BACK IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IN ORDER TO GET A HEFTY PAYDAY.SO MANY MISHAPS AND INTERESTING PLOTS ALONG THE WAY. FULL OF GREAT HUMOR AND ACTION. HIGHLY RECCOMEND TO ALL.
This is Burt Reynolds and Jackie Gleason at their prime.
Burt is the Bandit, and Jerry Lee Lewis is the Snow Man. Together they will try to run from the Atlanta Speedway to Texarkana, Texas, and pick up a truckload of Coors beer, and return in 48 hours. the prize is $80,000! There's only two problems; 1) It's never been done before, and, 2) Coors isn't legal in Georgia, so if they get caught, they will be charged with bootlegging and go to jail. They made the bet with Big and Little Enis Cabell. Now they are ready to roll, Snow Man at the wheel of the truck, and the Bandit at the wheel of the Jet Black Trans Am blocking car. They get to Texarkana without a problem, load the beer, and take off for Georgia. This is where the trouble begins. . . Bandit picks up a hitch hiker in a wedding dress. . .She skipped out on her wedding to Junior. . . It just happens that Junior is the son of the Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason), and "nobody makes a possum's tit out of Sheriff Buford T. Justice"! Now with Bandit is Frog (Sally Field), who just couldn't go through with the wedding to Junior, being chased by Sheriff Justice and Junior, in "Hot Pursuit", and Snow Man coming up the rear. This is a funny movie and was filmed back in the time of muscle cars, C.B. Radios, Hot Rods. TV shows like C.H.I.P.S. and Mission Impossible, Sanford & Son, and The Beverly Hillbillies, and the Dukes of Hazard were popular.
This movie was as much as a infomercial for Pontiac Trans Am, Coors Beer, and Stupid small town cops and Sheriffs. The movie was funny and the driving sequences were wild. Burt was Burt and Jackie Gleason was really funny. This movie will appeal to young teenagers, those over twenty-five, and especially to the 18-23 year old bunch with no teeth and lots of tattoos.
Great movie. Has to be considered Jackie Gleason and Burt Reynolds greatest movie. Terrific, entertaining, and full of fun. Jerry Reed is fantastic as the Bandit's side kick along with Sally Field. This movie has a tremendous cast of characters that you will want to watch over and over again.
