Movie synopsis

After graduating from junior high, a group of four friends decide to have a SLEEPOVER to celebrate. Hannah (Mika Boreem), Farrah (Scout Taylor-Compton), and Yancy (Kalli Flyn Childress) gather at Julie's (Alexa Vega from SPY KIDS) parents' house, and eagerly discuss plans for their forthcoming first year at high school. Their excitement is soon brought to a halt, however, when a group of rival girls led by the popular Stacie (Sarah Poxton) challenges them to a scavenger hunt. The stakes are high. So high, in fact, that the winners of the hunt will take a much-coveted place in the dining hall for lunch, thereby securing their popularity at high school. Unfortunately, Julie's dad, Jay (Jeff Garlin from CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM), is under orders from her mom (Jane Lynch) not to let the kids leave the house, and so Julie asks her older brother Ren (Sam Huntington) to cover for her while she sneaks out. As the girls undertake a variety of bizarre tasks, Ren and Jay offer plenty of comedic relief, with the clueless father frequently coming perilously close to realizing where the girls are.Director Joe Nussbaum, infamous for the cult indie flick GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE, proves his comedic chops with his first major studio film. Providing a wholesome teen movie that doesn't descend into tasteless jokes, Nussbaum draws on a strong cast to create a highly entertaining tale that both teenagers and adults will be able to embrace.

The Second Worst Movie EVER

Created: 09/23/05
Review For: Sleepover (DVD, 2004)
A couple of tween girls get together for a sleepover. They sneak out to go to a high school dance. At the same time, one of the girls mom's goes out on the town. Later, the girls decide to go to a club. Yes, pre-teen girls who are able to pass off as adults at a club... Oh my, it's the same club that the girl's mom went to... blahblahblah ...

The one 14 yr old less-than-hot girl gets a dream date with the hot drummer from the high school prom (at least 18 yrs old, maybe MUCH older). The 13 year old girl ends up with the prom King from the high school dance, the hottest boy in the school, aged 17 or 18, begging for a date with this junior high girl who has sleepovers and sneaks out of her parents' house.

This is supposed to appeal to young teen "tween" girls but I can't imagine how it could possibly succeed. The plot is not just completely implausible, it is actually offensive. The sappy-happy endings do not make up for the complete lack of anything worth watching.

Being drunk while watching this movie DOES NOT HELP. This is a VERY BAD MOVIE.

Sleepover

Review For: Sleepover (DVD, 2004)
I'm an adult with no children and I happened to catch this movie on Showtime and it was very entertaining. It is about friendship and trying to fit in. The characters are very likable and the dream guy is dreamy. Even the geeky guys are likeable. Steve Carrel is a hilariously inept security guard. You don’t have to be a teen to appreciate this movie. It reminded me of being young and doing fun things with my friends. However parents may not like the fact that the girls successfully sneak out of the house and drive around town on a scavenger hunt. You decide. The music was really good as well. I would buy the soundtrack.

Title is fine.

Review For: Sleepover (DVD, 2004)
There were a lot of lessons to be learned in this movie and it iw great for girls not quite into the teens. It was a lot of fun watching it and very entertaining. It showed how some kids bully others and how ugly they can be, but how the underdogs can come out as winners if they try hard enough. It also showed that all mothers don't have to go nuts because a rule was disobeyed when her daughter told her the truth and explained why she did it. It also showed trust between a girl's parents and the cool thing the girl's brother did to help her out. I think it is a great movie for say, 8 yrs old up to very young teens. It wouldn't hurt the parents to watch it, too.

I say Thumbs UP!!

Pretty Good Movie

Created: 06/29/08
Review For: Sleepover (DVD, 2004)
This is a pretty good movie...I didn't like the message that it sends high school kids. It doesn't express the right priorities/values people should have. For example, one girl asked her friend, "What do you want more than anything in the whole world?!" and she replied, '(a popular boy's name that she didn't even know)' and the other girl said, "Well, if you don't do this (sneaking out of the house, doing illegal stuff, and breaking the law), he won't ever notice you!" It's all about reputations and who is popular with who regardless of consequences!

I liked the character role that Steve Carell played (Officer Sherman). It's pretty funny. This is the main reason I bought it...I also got it at a low price, so in all it's worth the money...

good story line

Review For: Sleepover (DVD, 2004)
My daughter's and I realy liked this movie. It had a good story line and showed that you should never give up, if there is something that you really want. The one thing I really liked was that the daughter told her mother the truth about leaving the house and her mother did not go balistic! The daughter also found out something about her mom's and Dad's realationship and her brother realised that College was where he wanted to be. Great Story line. Only thing I could have done without was the bathroom sceen. All in all a good moive.
