When I listened to the first track ("State of the Union") on this production, I knew this album would be extremely political. But that's okay; expressing your political agenda in music isn't anything out of the ordinary.
I mean jeez! Look at Toby Keith.
Luckily there is a big difference (thank heavens) between Toby Keith and Rise Against. It's quite simple, really: Rise against doesn't suck. Toby Keith does.
Anyway, on to the review.
"State of the Union" was an extremely loud song that seemed to be accomplishing quite a bit of yelling in a relatively short amount of time (2 minutes 19 seconds). The yelling in this track got a little out of hand.
"Paper Wings" (track 4) was one of my favorite songs on the album; it had a nice beat that told me a lot about Rise Against. It seems to me that this band is very well balanced as far as the type of songs they put on their albums. They keep it real!
I'd have to be a menace not to mention a track that simply kicked ass. "Swing Life Away" has a nice slow beat to it, almost too slow to even consider coming from this band. Todd Nuke 'Em pointed this out as one of his new favorite songs; after listening to this disc I think the song has found a nice fuzzy warm place in my heart where only Care Bears and Dr. Pepper travel.
It seems like this band is very talented from listening to the disc, I like what they've done with Siren Song of the Counter Culture and I'm confident their next release will be amazing.
As another review stated, some of the songs can seem a little political if you pay very close attention to the lyrics. However, the music is great and fits very well with the style of singing. I would recommend this to hard rock lovers and punk lovers alike. Having never heard of the band before this CD, I was impressed to say the least.
Also, not every song sounds the same, which is more than can be said for many new albums coming out lately. ESPECIALLY punk albums.
Very good CD which is the first version of the The Siren Song. I'm quite happy with the CD since the price is very good and so are the service and communication. Fast shipping, No Problem!
Very good deal I recommend it!
I bought this CD because Paper Wings was featured in Burnout 3: Takedown.
The other songs on the CD live up to this track and I'm glad I got this CD.
I don't find it particularly amazing or genre-redefining but it is good punk/emo and its easy to listen to especially when driving.
