Movie synopsis
Ideological changes in post-Civil Rights movement America were at the heart of legendary African-American actor Sidney Poitier's films in the late 1960s. One such film is this powerful drama, which stars Poitier as Mark Thackery, an unemployed engineer who applies for a teaching job because he needs the paycheck. He lands a job at a school in London's East End that's full of unruly teenagers who are profoundly uninterested in learning. After several failed attempts to reach the students, Thackery abandons the textbooks and conventional teaching methods and, treating them as young adults, he prepares his students for the job market. His unorthodox style is effective--the students begin to respect Thackery and absorb his lessons. But his substantial accomplishments are weighed in the balance when he is finally offered the engineering job he had been waiting for.Poitier's proud, defiant figure stands tall against the rowdy, aimless swinging-sixties London teens, but one of the film's strengths is the respect that is paid to the disruptive students as human characters worthy of a better future. Lulu, who delivers a strong student portrayal, also sings the popular theme song.

To Sir With Love, Lulu! Love the theme song and Lulu. Sidney Poitier gives a riveting performance for which I personally think it's his best film however, I know there are other films he's done. This one is my favorite!

Enjoy!~~~~~

FROM CRAYONS TO PERFUME

Sidney Poitier, LuLu and Judy Geeson star in this drama involving a black teacher and some unruly British students in London.
LuLu sang the title song of the same name and ingrained the movie and her name into America's memories and concepts around high school and growing up.
Poitier plays Mark Thackery, a teacher who changes the lives of some wrong side of the tracks, high school Londoners.
The movie is 100% drama with a moving and clear message- your life is what you make it- you choose your own path. The song, "To Sir with Love" and the movie of the same name will bring you to tears on more than one occasion.
Judy Geeson shines as the young Pamela Dare who falls in love with her teacher dubbed "Sir" by her and the other students.
It would be interesting to see this kids as adults today and see how life has treated them.
Would the the influence of one great teacher have saved them from lives of crime and poverty? The question remains...

To Sir with love

A true classic. If you love Sidney Poitier, and who doesn't, this is a must see film. There are memorable performances by an outstanding cast including LuLu who took the American audience by a storm. Who could forgent the haunting classic "To Sir with Love" sung by LuLu. I highly recomend this film for anyone who deals with a classroom or with children in general. This film reminds us all to be a little more patient with those we do not always understand at first. A must see movie. Five stars and more

TO SIR WITH LOVE DVD

I was a little girl when this show came out - lied about my age and saw it 26 times (this is when u cud sit in theatre to watch a show over & over - a long time ago!) This era had very high quality film so the movie looks crystal clear now. Great movie about "bad" kids who needed a father figure/teacher who would nuture them. Back then, it appears "bad" kids were no match for "bad" ones today....but, it was the 60s so times were different. Maybe it is because it was part of my tender years, but I just love this flic. Loved the characters. It's nice to watch it now - back then I thought "Denham" was hot & now it's "Thackery"....

Old Favorite

Growing up in the late 1960^s and early 1970^s there were a few movies that were shown on TV. To Sir,With Love was one of these movies. Recently on Glee the Choir sang the movie^s title song and my children loved it. I really wanted them to see the movie which was one of my old favorites. I am afan of Sidney Poitier and happy to now own this classic movie on DVD.
