You know I have been a fan of the Simpsons since the first episode. NEVER did see it on the Tracy Oldman show.
Now, I understood when they started releasing the seasons on DVD about putting supporting characters on the packaging. But since they started that the last few seasons have NOT been if this makes sense major minor supporting characters. Kang or Kodos? How about Barney, Moe, Mr. Burns or Flanders?
Then making this themed after Kang & Kodos THEN releasing it December 2011? Sure, you need that to promote Christmas. And, why December 2011 & season 13 released August 2010? What was with the delay? At least they did NOT do what they did for several years-release it Christmas week.
Aren’t we glad they stopped the starting each season AFTER Halloween making Treehouse of Terror the 1st episode of the season? This was 1st season they did this. Stupid idea, post season baseball but why miss September?
This season was also the down fall I noticed of how funny the shows were. My favorite episode on disc 1 "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation" with Mick and Keith. Disc 3 "Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington" featuring Krusty is good as well.
Now, the DVD packaging is TERRIBLE. Hard to get the discs out in this horrible design.
"The Simpsons" began having more "misses" than "hits" around season 11 and season 14 is no exception, however, those who would call 14 a waste of time & money are not being fair. For a show that has been able to remain on tv 23 years (and counting), you have to give some credit to the writers for taking well worn ideas & giving them (somewhat) fresh slants. I found that many of the episodes in Season 14 retained their moments of hilarity, however, the problem with these sets has always been the ancillary items: A "Halloween/Kang and Kodos" themed parenthetical structure? This is yet another example that, as Fox churns out another season of this mega-hit series that they are simply running out of ideas. My biggest criticism is not about the commentaries, which seemed a more enjoyable mix of insightful "making of" remarks and humorous self-congratulation than in some previous seasons (in other words, "boring"), but about the fact that Fox would consider it an "extra" to take all of the K & K moments from every Halloween episode up to #14 and lump them together. Is season 14 worth it? Absolutely, yes! But, as Fox is only interested in making money, (their obvious right-wing political agenda aside), do not expect an improvement in the standard DVD packaging or what's inside either. Also, when season 20 is "re-issued" in a few years to come, don't hold your breath expecting them to offer a "rebate" for people who bought it a few years ago just as a promotional ploy.
5/5 Stars for the season. 3/5 for the product packaging.
The packaging sucks like a few of the other season releases. Discs are easily scratched/smudged due to it. Hell to get the discs out of the "sleeve" things. Still, it's the Simpsons so it is a must have for a fan or collector.. which I am big on both.
I like the box art, though. Kang/Kudos ftw!
Plus for the extras/commentaries.
Matt Groening is the best.
The dvd cover was good, but the dvds inside where not. For starters they wern't season 14 they were season 5 and they were burnt copies. I was very much ripped off!
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY!!
I love the Simpsons. There are a lot of character-developing episodes this seasons. There are many extras and commentaries. I originally had trouble with Disk one, but I got that cleared up.
