Lens not too big,no abberations on color, takes 58mm filter. The macro switch is a littie fussy, but when you get onto it it's no problem.Lens is easy to twist zoom, which works smoothly, accurate focus, metal mount, good rubber hand holds. All in all,a good Sigma lens.Sigma service is excellent in or out of warrenty.A bargain for the money.
I like this lens I got a great deal on it and it does everything I want/need it to do. It is a cost effective 70-300 mm zoom lens with some basic macro capabilities.
only issue I have had with it is it takes a while to wait for auto focus but most of the time I am using manual
I use this lens on a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350) and for the money it can't be beat. On the Revel it gives a field of view like a 112mm - 480mm, which is very long for a lens without image stability. At the long end it is important to mount the camera/lens on a solid tripod. If you have to hand hold the lens it is best to use shutter priority with a fast shutter speed (maybe twice the mm setting - i.e. if you are at 300 use at least 1/600 or faster). The lens focuses fairly fast and accurate (less than maybe a second).
I liked this lens because of the fact that it is not only a telephoto lens, but also a macro lens. It functions great as both. What I don't like is that the lens seems a little stiff when you zoom the lens out. Also, I don't know if the lens is causing it to do this, but sometimes when you release the shutter, it appears that it closes, but no picture is taken. Overall though, a very good lens.
this is a great lens, for what its intended to be. its fast, takes great macro's, and has enough zoom ot get in a good way on that far off Elk you are tring to get.
