|Using Sigma's own triple-cam Internal-Focus (IF) system, a zoom ratio of 10.7:1 was achieved, providing full coverage of a wide range of shots from panoramic views to close-ups-all in one lens.Sigma's lens technology has produced a high performance zoom lens that is compact, lightweight and delivers high-quality images. It has a length of 3.5 in. (90mm) and a filter size of 67mm. A SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass in the optimum place in the lens groups is used for excellent correction of chromatic aberration, and added two aspherical lenses for effective correction of spherical aberration and coma aberration. So the lens displays high optical ability throughout the entire zoom range.A 10.7:1 zoom ratio means you can always rely on this lens when the decisive moment arrives. You can capture widely varying subjects without having to change lenses, so you won't miss out when the decisive moment arrives. The lens is also portable, making it ideal for travel photography. In fact, it covers a wide range of subject situations from landscape photography to snap photography on the street. In addition, this lens re-defines high performance, giving you a high degree of flexibility in selecting picture composition and the power to express exactly what you want. The inner focus system allows the lens to be focused without having to turn the front of the lens, and facilitates the use of a circular polarizing filter. It also allows the lens to accept a Petal-type hood, with its superior light-blocking effect. It is equipped with convenient functions that make the lens easy to carry and easy to use. The zoom lock switch function prevents the lens from creeping due to its own weight, and avoids the danger of shock when the lens is being carried. The maximum photography magnification scale corresponding to each focusing distance and focal length is display on the barrel.|

The lens covers so much from wide angle out to tele-photo and what
I like best is that this large zoom compared pretty close to my collection of Canon "L" lens covering the same distance. An excellent choice for a single walk around lens.
I bought this lens for self preservation. I already have and use a Sigma 28-300mm that I've had for years. My wife is constantly borrowing the lens so I decided she needed her own. Now that she has hers life is easier. This lens is really a perfect combination of close-up/wide angle to telephoto and everything in between. Photos taken with this lens are sharp at any setting. It functions smoothly and holds its position wherever you choose. I have had several other zoom lenses in the past that didn't quite fill the needs I had. This lens does fill my needs and those of my wife. Now we can both get that perfect photo at the same time.
After trying out this Sigma lens, I loved the super zoom capabilities and its rather small body size. Although this lens will not be compatible with Nikon cameras that do not have the old focusing motor (E.g. Nikon D40), it performs flawlessly with the Nikon F90 film camera that I used it with. The only downside to this lens is the auto-focusing speed. It feels a tad slow, but it is usable. Overall, this is a lens that I will keep and use regularly.
This lens was made for both Nikon/Canon cameras (& others). The reason I bought it was to replace a similar model which a "ham-fistd" cousin thinking it was STUCK, twisted the focusing ring thinking it was the zoom AND promptly broke it. It still automacally focuses. On eBay I purchased another under $100 which seemed to snap into focus much quicker!!! This has been a workhorse and at that price is a real bargain on my Nikon D70 & D90. Anyone on a budget or JUST STARTING would be smart to buy this lens if they couldn't afford a newer higher-priced model.
I bought the Sigma Zoom lens 28-300mm, and immediately was impressed with the photos I could take from a far without disturbing nature, which it's the reason why I bought it. I am not a professional by any means, but I would recommend this lens to any one still interested in film taking pictures. It's not noisy at all and allows you to take great pictures. It was immediately delivered upon payment, looking forward to do business again.
