The 8825 and the 8800 handsets create a phone system with flexibility that has yet to be matched by any of the others. Range on the handsets is several blocks and I have found it nice to carry while out walking my cat (yes cat) or working on maintaining the apt. complex. I use a second 8825 base conected to two Grandstream HandyTone HT-488 units (which connect to the internet), and handle my two internet VOIP overseas lines. Since each handset is capable of connecting to two bases, it is simple to switch from one to the other. There are a great deal of features that are often missed in this system, like the base stations ability to voice announce who is calling, in your own voice if you like when it rings. Read the manual carefully and if you do not have one, email me. It has only one negative, which is true with ALL cordless. It needs power to work. Kinda hard in a power failure.
Excellent quality 2 line system. Very good speaker phone built into each cordless handset. Design flaw: The charger/holder for each cordless handset is flawed. After using each handset for about a year, all of the five sets stopped charging unless you place a small shim behind the handset when it is in the charger to make it more upright and give it better contact with the charger. It will then charge normally. This has occured in all of my handsets/chargers.
I am a telephone technician since 1978. I've seen thousands of cordless phones in most every manner of design and performance.
I originally purchased my phones sometime in 2002 and for 5 years AAA Excellant performance not one problem, with batteries or charging base. Who'd expect a rechargable battery to last 5 years. Even after one of the extensions was left in a robe and machine washed was dried and worked with minimal distortion not so much with other extenions that got wet.
After 5 years of problem free performance phoblems with the charging base even after replacing the batteries. Probably oxidation and or ac/dc transformer voltage reducer.
The options of customizing the two line access in any configuration, ringing, pick-up, monitor, paging, ring tone, naming, and a host of other features Sadden me to discover Siemans no loner manufactures consumer products and no one else has acquired this model to produce, sell, or improve on. I found this model for the cost and features WITHOUT EQUAL. If you know of any please let me know !
I have been resigned to buy from eBay
I too discovered that it was difficult to get these cordless phones to sit in the charger properly after owning them with no problem for a long time. The problem, I believe, is in the weight of the battery. When I first replaced the NiMh rechargeable batteries on one of my phones, I bought batteries rated at 2650 mAh. This is when the problem with the charger starter occurring (I used the shim solution before I realized it was the battery). It occurred to me a heavier battery would change the balance and make the phone sit incorrectly. When I had to replace the batteries for my other handset, I bought a battery of 2500 mAh rating. It sits in the charger just as good as new. The 2500 mAh AA battery weights 1.0 once. The 2650 mAh battery weighs 1.1 once.
I love this phone system! I realize that this model has been discontinued, but I have purchased additional handsets on eBay and even purchased a back-up base unit in case I ever need to replace mine, which I've been satisfied with for more than eight years. Great features and easy to use, too!
