Movie synopsis
Alex Cox's riveting biopic tells the bleak, heroin-drenched story of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his disturbed American girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. Gary Oldman delivers a bravura performance as Sid, matched by Chloe Webb's grating, clearly unhinged Nancy. The two lovers' childlike tenderness with each other contrasts sharply with their bleak, violent nihilism, and while the script implies that Nancy's death was accidental, the line between intention and accident is deliberately blurred. By turns romantic and horrific, SID & NANCY is often grueling to watch, but always compelling. This followup to Cox's cult hit REPO MAN was another critical success, showing that the director was as comfortable with reality-based material as with the satirical fantasy of his first feature. His romantic vision draws us in while throwing us back in time to London and New York at the inception of the drug-laden British punk era. The film's dreamlike style and a hypnotic score dramatize the schism between Sid and Nancy's world and the world around them--and the inevitable horror when those worlds collide.

Outstanding Performances by Oldman and Webb

Loved the acting by Oldman and Webb, two of the best screen performances you'll EVER see. Please note that you needn't like punk rock or the music of the Sex Pistols to enjoy this film, which is a rivetting and realistic love story about two very dysfunctional people thrown into the public eye. Musical score by Joe Strummer of The Clash was also great and captured the spirit of the time. The only thing I disliked was how Sex Pistols Manager Malcolm McLaren and all the other Sex Pistols (especially Johnny Rotten) were completely distorted in one-dimensional caricatures, but as the title suggests, this film wasn't supposed to be about them.

Fantastic Film

Gary Oldman & Chloe Webb are over the top awesome. I watched this for the first time in 1988. Now I own the dvd and watched it for the second time 20+ yrs later. The acting is over the top. If you google Sid and Nancy interviews, the similarities between the actors and Sid/Nancy are incredible.

The filth and the fury

Gary Oldman is amazing, and while Cloe Webb's performance may seem over the top, if you know anything about Nancy Spungen you know that this is really not entirely an inaccurate portrayal. In the end, the film really captures the sadness and desperation of two misfits who feel hopeless and spiral into the abyss of drugs and ultimate destruction.

Great Bio!

This is a great biography of two nuts. I liked the actors and the portrayal of these two whaccos. Love was really good as Nancy, she must had some identification with this character and her own personal tribulations. It's a look behind the scenes at a rockers life on the industry, the nuts they encounter, the tempatations along the way, and the possible insanity that can consume one as a result!

Sid and Nancy

in truth it is a wonderful portrayal of the pure dysfunction that existed in the lives of Sid Vicious and Nancy... they were oddly perfect for eachother, and they were the demise of eachother as well. wile it is the perfect example of what not to do in a relationship, they were the epitome of the happy couple while they lasted despite all the fighting, which only served to fueled them.
