Movie synopsis
Jake Briggs (Kevin Bacon) has been in love with Kristy Bainbridge (Elizabeth McGovern) since he was a teenager. They marry right after college and embark on their new life together, with all of its ups and downs. Told largely through the eyes of narrator Jake, a would-be author who is prone to fits of fanciful, humorous hallucination--such as lawn-mowing neighbors breaking into song--this John Hughes film deals with the trials and tribulations of growing up and the responsibilities that come with marriage, adulthood, jobs, and children. Alec Baldwin appears as Davis McDonald, Jake's best friend, who is living life in the fast lane in New York, making Jake doubt his complacent, suburban lifestyle. Bacon and McGovern are believable as wide-eyed newlyweds dealing with the realities of "happily ever after," such as finding a job, paying the mortgage, and dealing with in-laws. The closing credits are enlivened by a parade of celebrities, including Kirstie Alley, Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Olivia Newton-John, Stewart Copeland, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, John Candy, Penny Marshall, Ally Sheedy, and many others.

Variety - Brit. (02/03/1988)

"...John Hughes seems to be crafting a comic movie valentine to approaching fatherhood....His intentions are tender and his eye sharp..."
Los Angeles Times - Michael Wilmington (02/05/1988)

"Hughes directed Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern in this poignant glimpse at the post-Clearasil years....It sure goes down easy." -- Grade: B

We're having a baby

Review For: She's Having a Baby (DVD, 2000, Widescreen)

We purchased this DVD because my fiance is having our first baby. She said she used to watch this when she was younger. It was better than I was expecting. It was very witty and touching at the same time. It would be good for any man who is scared about being a father to see this movie. It put a lot of my fears in perspective and it made me laugh(and cry...but only a little). This is also film maker Kevin Smith's favorite John Water's film. It's definately worth checking out!

Still good...

Review For: She's Having a Baby (DVD, 2000, Widescreen)

As a movie, great acting, great imagination and a good story line, considering that both husband and wife are separately tempted with adultery and come out knowing more about the true love they have for each other - how refreshingly different from most Hollywood fare!
Me being only 5 years younger than Bacon, my wife and I first saw this movie as young marrieds/parents and thought it was a classic. It is still entertaining and my daughter who is now 22, married and is a new mom loves the movie too... I'm thinkin maybe that would make it timeless?
And HOW did they get SO MANY famous 80's celebrities to come in for cameos on the credits??!!

She's Having a Baby

Review For: She's Having a Baby (DVD, 2000, Widescreen)

I saw this movie years ago when it first came out. At the time I was a young adult, just married, and scared to death that adulthood, marriage and parenthood meant the end of life as I knew it. Although told from the husband's point of view, this movie sums of the fears that so many of us have while entering into adulthood, and touches fond memories when we watch it again years later. This is by far an unforgetable movie, one of my favorites.

MOST MEN CAN RELATE

Review For: She's Having a Baby (DVD, 2000, Widescreen)

MOST MEN, BY NATURE WANT A FAMILY, BUT SOMEWHERE, WAY ON DOWN THE ROAD.
IT'S THE WOMEN THAT GET'S BABY FEVER, AND IN THIS MOVIE SHE HAS TO CONVINCE
HER HUSBAND THAT IT'S TIME. WHEN THEY FINALLY ARE WITH CHILD, IT'S JUST SO
FUNNY WATCHING THE HUSBAND (KEVIN BACON), WITH ALL THE UPS AND DOWNS OF
BECOMING A FATHER. AND WHEN THE TIME COMES AND THE ALMOST TRADEGY, THAT
OCCURS, THAT'S WHEN YOU SEE JUST HOW MUCH THE BABY REALLY MEANS TO HIM.
IT'S A GREAT FAMILY MOVIE, A SWEET MOVIE TO WATCH.

I had seen this movie many years ago, and I loved it. It has comedy, drama, suspense, and I wanted my young people to see it. it's worth it. It is appropriate for all ages, and I bet you'll enjoy it and will want to have it and share it. DonĀ“t miss the opportunity to have a good time with your family.
