Movie synopsis
New York City, just before Christmas. The last pair of black cashmere gloves in Bloomingdale's is on its way to the counter. As the gloves arrive, Sara (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan (John Cusack) claim them simultaneously. And so it begins--Sara and Jonathan go to a little coffee shop, named Serendipity, to decide who gets the gloves. They skate in Central Park. They look at the stars--the Cassiopeia constellation has the same pattern as the freckles on Sara's forearm. She writes her phone number in a book, saying she'll sell it to a random bookstore tomorrow. Jonathan writes his number on a five-dollar bill and she gives it to a street vendor. If destiny means them to be together, the book will find him, and the five-dollar bill will find her.Several years later--in New York--Jonathan is about to marry Hally (Bridget Moynahan). On the West Coast, Lars (John Corbett) proposes to Sara. Both Jonathan and Sara remember their delightful night. Jonathan sets out with friend Dean (Jeremy Piven) to find the book. Sara, with her friend Eve (Molly Shannon), flies to New York looking for Jonathan. Crisp direction from Peter Chelsom, a witty script by Marc Klein, and beautiful performances by John Cusak and Kate Beckinsale, make SERENDIPITY a delightful romantic comedy.

Serendipity: an aptitude for making desirable discoveri

Review For: Serendipity (DVD, 2002)

I love this movie! Ladies you will love it too. Guys, beware it's a chick flick!

It's a cute movie about two people shopping just before Christmas in the hussle bussle of all the people. At the exact moment these two reach for the same pair of gloves...the last pair of black, cashmere gloves. This begins the start of two peole who see something special in each other but don't want to interfer with fate and destiny. Find out in this romantic comedy if the two of them will find friendship or maybe even love. Can years make them forget each other? Or even other people and marriage?

Not the most charming romantic comedy

Review For: Serendipity (DVD, 2002)

I love John Cusack. That said, he doesn't shine in this picture. Perhaps it was his leading lady - or her character. For once, Cusack's character is more sympathetic. Usually he plays the more negative persona. But Kate brings the effort down. Her character is annoyingly fixed in her serendipitous ways. She ignores the signs of their chance meeting to leave the possibility of a relationship to some complicated tempting of the fates. Of course, if she'd given him her number, there'd be no movie! Falls flat in parts. But still, it's a romantic comedy - and if you like them, as I do - you have to watch them all! One bright spot: Jeremy Piven shines as Cusack's best friend.

A Classic Romance...

Review For: Serendipity (DVD, 2002)

Just simple, classic romance story.
"Serendipity" is Charming, funny, and very touching.
Yet, something so simple missing from so many other movies, this one hits it just perfectly!

John Cusak and Kate Beckinsale is simply perfectly and wonderfully "right at home"

Serendipity means fortunate accident.

Review For: Serendipity (DVD, 2002)

I love this movie because, like its name, two people meet in a fortunate accident. Like most romantic comedies the movie has its ups and downs, such as when they parted after having the most wonderful date of their lives and didn't find each other again for many years. The events of each of their lives in some way prepared them for their future reunion. They of course married and lived happily ever after. If only that happened to everyone in real life, but it does give us hope. That is what I love about romantic comedies. They do bring us something to hope for. I had seen this movie before and I knew it was something I would watch again many times. John Cusack is not to bad to look at. I highly recommend it for all of you Romantics.
