Sega Gensis model 1 console.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Sega Genesis model 1 console. Well, growing up I was very much a Nintendo fan. Anything having to do with Sega sucked. Well, you were either on one side or the other. Although today Nintendo will always have the number one spot in my heart, The Sega Genesis is not a bad system at all. Being a video game collector, this is a system you cannot go without. I personally prefer the model 1 Sega Genesis becuase it's just more impressive looking to me, more 90's. Plus, you are able to hook up the Sega Master System Power Converter up to it, which is not something you can do with the later Genesis versions (2 & 3). Also, you have the option to hook with the Sega 32X (be prepared for a web of wires) and the Sega CD, versions 1 or 2). I personally think the version 1 Sega CD looks more impressive, though I guess that's just becuase it's bigger. Not just that though...it is a space saver...sure, the Sega CD 2 is smaller, but with the one it's stacked on top rather than next to it. Vertical is the way to go if you want to save space. Unfortunately the Sega CD version 2's are a little more expensive, and harder to come by. Well the Sega Genesis mocel 1 uses it's own wierd port for audio and video and is only mono sound if you use this alone. I would suggest using this for the video only, then get at headphone jack that splits into two audio plugs (red and white), plug it into the front of your system, and then both audio jacks on your TV. Now you have stereo! The original controller for this system was real big, only 3 buttons, but it looks cool (once again, I guess just becasue it's bigger). They did come out with a 6 button controller, I'm not sure if that was when version 2 Genesis came out or not... The games for Sega are great though. Mainly the Sonic series. I wish I could site more examples but I'm not too well schooled on thier library's. They do have many classic side scrollers though, from watching reviews on youtube. I'm not exaclty sure if Sega did what Nintendon't, or how big a deal blast processing was, (Sega's processor was faster than the SNES but that didn't seem to matter, Nintendo still ruled...in fact much of Nintendo's competition at the time had better specs, yet in the end Nintedo always won) but the Sega Genesis is a classic gaming console, it's be a shame not to just disregard this great console. Get one today (the 1, not the two or three...unless you don't want to add stuff onto it, then just get the 2 or 3).

Great console to buy!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The genesis was home to a whole bunch of great games that everyone should play like the Phantasy stars and Contra hard corps and it was Segas only very successful console (Unfortunately) and the genesis had 3 add-ons The power base converter which allowed you to play master system games on it, the sega cd which allowed it to play cds which stored more data and it could use voice acting and cd quality music and the 32x which was segas biggest mistake but it had some good titles for it worth checking out if you can find a 32x for cheap. Overall its a great console to have but if you want to buy one get a model 1 or a model 2 with a VA3 or VA4 motherboard because most model 2s have messed up audio and/or video.

A great system that is more than worth the admission price.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Sega Genesis is undoubtedly one of the best consoles of all time. The fact that it was less powerful than the Super Nintendo, yet still had a spectacular game selection on it is quite the accomplishment especially considering the freight train of sales that was Nintendo with their Nes. Sega took some neat risks, some which paid off (Eg. Master system compatibility, headphone jack, creating the plastic game case, and public licensing and support of the Game Genie)and some which didn't(the sega cd and 32x while interesting experiments with some awesome games where either ahead of their time or pointless). However even if you don't own any of the attachments for the system it still has a spectacular game selection. First and foremost, there's the Sonic the Hedgehog series being some of the best platform games of all time, the Golden axe and Streets of rage series's being great beat em ups, and nice support from third party companies such as konami and capcom. Unfortunately while the classics of the Super nintendo where popular and owned by everyone, with the exception of the Sonic series the best games on the Sega genesis are games you have to search for such as Contra Hard corps, Castlevania bloodlines, Megaman the Wily wars, Tmnt the Hyperstone Heist, and last but not least Gunstar Heroes. The ports of Super nintendo games are also usually pretty decent, and if you have a 6 button controller get the genesis version of Street fighter 2 as it's far superior to the Snes version Imo. If I had to pick some issues with this product, while the model 2 genesis reduces the size, it also reduces the features of it without even being labeled as a budget model and just about every future rerealese has removed more and more features of the good old genesis. Thankfully original models are pretty cheap, and if you decide to buy it you'll also get a slew of great multiplayer games to go along with it that have very little slowdown. While bad decisions may have plagued the latter days of this consoles life, it still did a great job holding it's own against the super nintendo and it still holds up to this day.

My favorite game system of them all!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

What can I say about the Sega Genesis, it is just flat out awesome. I have owned all versions of the Genesis. My favorite is the orginal model 1. It was ahead of it's time with the headphone jack and volume control right on the deck. You can't beat all the add-ons for the Genesis either, you can add on the Sega 32X to go from 16 bit gaming up to 32 bit. Or you can add on the Sega CD, that also allows you to play CDs and CD-G disks for Karoke. The game library is huge just for the Genesis alone, and that doesn't include the extra game libraries of the 32X and Sega CD.
The Sonic line of games are great, lets face it. The Genesis has been gone for how long and you can still get Sonic games for all the other platforms like Playstation Xbox and Wii. There is a ton of extras you can add to your Genesis as well, the TeeV Golf Club, the Baseball Bat, Steering Wheels and the list goes on and on.
I think the best thing I like about the Genesis is the fact that the system is family friendly. This was one of the last systems out before games started to get really graphic. don't get me wrong there is a few games that came out for the the Sega that are rated mature. But that is a very small portion of the game library. Plus, when you have a basic controller with just 3 buttons or a Sega CD controller with only 6 buttons, it makes the games easier to play. I hope this review helps.

Mostly satisfied

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Mostly satisfied. Wont read certain games and power button isnt very stable. Though most games i currently own play crystal clear on both audio and video. Certainly a nice trip down memory lane.
