Movie synopsis
Albert Finney shines as the title character in this musical version of Charles Dickens' timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a lonely miser who is visited on Christmas Eve by three spirits who teach him lessons of love and giving. Fun choreography, rich set design, memorable songs, and a distinguished supporting cast (led by Sir Alec Guinness as Jacob Marley's ghost) lend considerable clout to this perennial favorite.

A splendid musical/drama rendition of A Christmas Carol

This movie is a perennial event in our house over the Christmas holiday season. Albert Finney is spectacular in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and Sir Alec Guinness does a great rendition of Jacob Marley's ghost. The music and pageantry is outstanding; Shefford studios created a premier, enduring holiday classic with this movie. I have had two video taped copies from televised showings of Scrooge but each omits part of the movie (interestingly, they both leave out different parts) due to the length of the original. I am excited to finally find a complete copy, in DVD format, of the original movie "Scrooge".

scrooge the musical

superb sets wonderful actors and "The classic story" what more could you ask for. albert finney captures the character of scrooge michael medwin his "nephew" was a good choice, however I really liked anton rogers the "hot soup seller" particularly when singing his tribute to the dead scrooge. I thought kenneth moore unconvincing as the ghost of christmas present and beleive a poor casting for him as also was Sir alec guinness, I assume cast as the ghost of marley simply because he starred as scrooge in the black and white version, another poor choice.
nevertheless a very good film overall and well worth watching more than once. Ive always wanted to have a copy of this film. now I can look forward to the next xmas

Not Just Another Scrooge

Musicals are an absolute delight and this one does not disappoint. Albert Finney in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge is perfection and the scenery, choreography and costumes are nothing short of magical. It's always fun to see a new spin on a familiar story, especially when it's as well crafted as this one is.
This delightful musical adaptation of The Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carole, is my favorite and I have seen them all ( including live productions!) It is the best way to bring the joy of the Christmas season into your home and I highly recommend it as a gift. Why did I purchase this...I needed an additional copy, yes it's just that good!

Scrooge, Is a great Christmas Classic.

A Great Holiday Classic. Scrooge, Is definetly one of my Holiday favorites. A Uplifting Musical with Good Meaning, great acting, songs, and story line from begining to end. Great demonstration how a family with an Ill child, and other siblings, Seem like they have just enough to get by,and yet can enjoy and be thankful for what they have. While Scrooge,a wealthy miser seems to dislike everything around him. Untill Spirits show him visions of things of the past, present ,and future, and the consequences, which makes him change to become a better person.
I purchased this DVD, because my old VHS tape and player are boxed away somewhere and wanted to watch it for Christmas.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Scrooge the musical

If you like musicals and believe people can change, this movie is made for you. In this adaptation of Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol, Albert Finney plays the people-hating tight wad Ebenezer Scrooge. Throughout the movie, emphasis is placed on each sub-plot through the use of innovative songs and dance. From "I Hate People" to "I Love Life," Scrooge evolves from the hard-hearted, people hating, lonely old man that he is to the warm, generous, giving benefactor that lives deep inside him. This movie is paricularly enjoyable because the songs vitalize the plot and the plot is universally applicable. There is some type of Scrooge lurking inside each of us and this movie gives hope that those baser emotions can be expunged with the right motivation.
