Scream (1996) Drew Berrymore, Courtney Cox

Watched any scary movies lately? Everybody who likes a scary movie likes John Carpenter's Halloween, or maybe nightmare On Elm Street. This sure seems to be the premise of this horror story. Sidney,(Neve Cambell) is one of the many victims that we follow through the film who has a troubled past with the death of her mother one year ago. Someone in town has seen one too many scary movies and has taken it to the next level and used a popular Halloween mask, which does reference Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. In fact the whole film is a farce, twisting the plot enough to keep you guessing until the end. Scream really isn't much of a real horror film, it's a dark comedy that spoofs off all the original blockbuster horror films, much like the Scary Movie series. It does appear however that the film Scream references the most IS John Carpenter's Halloween. Overall, it proves to be an exciting movie if you have an interst in horror films.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

If "The Exorcist" was the horror movie that defined the 1970's and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was the horror movie that defined the 1980's, then surely "Scream" must be the horror movie that defined the 1990's.

This movie takes every horror film twist and throws them in your face, telling you what you should expect next, then because you are told to expect it, thinking that it must be a red herring, makes you jump even more because they STILL give you it. Wes Craven takes Kevin Williamson's characters, most of them walking cliches of every horror movie from the past twenty years (the rookie cop, the tough reporter, the young virgin, the horny boyfriend) and turns them all on their heads to make a fantastic tongue in cheek movie that still has an original plot and great scares every step of the way.

And there are plenty of winks to pretty much every semi famous horror movie ever made. From the caretaker called Freddy to the teens watching "Halloween" on video. Heck, half of the fun is spotting the nods to the numerous movies referenced in "Scream" ("What is this, another Wes Carpenter movie?")

If you like horror movies and you have not seen Scream yet, I ask you... why not???

The best in the Scream series!!!

Review For: Scream (DVD, 1997)

The original is usually the best and that is the case in this film!!!

Scream is a great slasher film. It pulls you in a won't let you go. The kill scenes are pretty cool and the acting is spot-on. It's funny and scary, and Jamie Kennedy does a superb job as the horror movie buff.

Scream will have you guessing right up until the end.

Final Verdict:

5/5

Rent or Buy?: Buy the Ultimate Scream Pack instead, but this film is definitely worth owning.

Scream

Review For: Scream (DVD, 1997)

This is one of my favorite horror movies. I really enjoyed it since it's different from others that I had seen before. Out of the Scream trilogy, I'd say that this is the best one.

The movie is about a serial killer who is preying on teens in a small town. The killer is using their knowledge of horror movies to pick out victims. The question is, who is the killer?

I recommend this movie to any horror movie fan.

Scream

Review For: Scream (DVD, 1997)

Scream is one of the best slasher films of all-time. The master of horror Wes Craven is at his finest in this film. The film combines horror with comedy and is praised as one of the funniest horror movies ever. However, don't let the humor fool you this movie will cause nightmares. The opening scene gets the whole things started and is quiet horrifying. The acting is top grade from people like Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and Skeet Ulrich. I highly recommend buying this movie, you wont regret it.
