Movie synopsis
When Santa Claus gets killed in a freak accident after being startled on the rooftop of a house, it looks like Christmas is ruined. But fortunately, just before his death, the jolly, gift-giver passed the torch to ad executive Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), who finishes the job of bestowing holiday cheer on all. When he finally reaches on the North Pole, however, Scott learns that he can't give up the job -- he's become the next Santa Claus. (THAT'S the Santa Clause!). Scott returns home, only to find himself slowly changing into the pudgy, white-haired old man so beloved of children... and to find that everyone around him considers him utterly and completely mad.

New York Times - Janet Maslin (11/11/1994)

"...THE SANTA CLAUSE is often a clever and amusing movie, and there's a lot of fresh invention in it..."

The Best Magical Santa Clause EVER

Tim Allen Plays Scott Calvin a Divorcee Who Shares Custody Of Their Darling Son Charlie. It Seems No Matter How Hard Scott Tries...He Just Is Not Good Enough For His Son Charlie.

Christmas Eve Scott's Ex-Wife Laura Drops Charlie Off For Him To Have Christmas With His Father. Well It Turns Out Neil (Laura's New Husband - Charlie's StepFather) Has Told Charlie Santa Does NOT Exist! Scott Gets Mad About This (Mainly Because He Does Not Want Neil To Be Charlie's Father...Scott Himself Wants to Be). Scott Is Out in The Kitchen Making Dinner & Accidently Burns The Homemade Turkey So He Has To Take Charlie To a Restaurant.

That Evening Scott Reads Charlie "Twas The Night Before Christmas" and Charlie Starts To Ask All Kinds Of Questions On How Santa Claus Does It All. Scott Answers Him As Good As He Can. One of Charlie's Questions Was: "What Does Arose Such a Clatter Mean?" And During The Night...Charlie Hears A Noise. He Runs To Wake Up His Dad to Tell Him.

Scott Hears It and Runs Outside Only To Find a Man Dressed As Santa On His Roof! Scott Yells At Him & The Santa Falls Down to The Ground and Vanishes Leaving Only His Red Suit! Charlie Has Come Outside Now and He Sees A Ladder Leading to The Roof So Up He Goes & Discovers Santa's Sleigh & Reindeer!!
Scott Goes up The Ladder Also and Cannot Believe What He is Seeing. Charlie Tells His Dad To Put on The Suit and Next Thing You Know They Are Off Riding on Santa's Sleigh!!

Scott & Charlie At The End Of The Sleigh Ride End Up In The North Pole!! Scott is Like I Need a Cat Scan!!! Well Anyhow The Head Elf Benard Tells Scott He is Santa Clause & It is Because He Read The Card in The Pocket of The Santa Suit. It Has a Clause in Tiny Print That States If You Put on The Suit (Red Jacket) Then You Are Santa Claus!! Scott Is Still Reluctant To Believe All Of This & Does Not Want to Believe That it Is All Happening.

The Next Morning Charlie and Scott Awake In Scott's House In Their Beds. Scott Says, "What a WEIRD DREAM!!" Laura Shows Up To Pick Up Charlie and Charlie Starts Telling All About The North Pole and The Happenings!! Laura is Furious to Find Out Scott Has Been Telling Their Son Such Drastic Tales.

Later As Time Goes By Laura and Neil Notice Charlie is Still On This Kick That His Dad Is Santa Claus...And Unfortunatley Gets Upset By This. They Tell Scott That This Has to STOP!! But As You can Imagine, It Does Not.

Time Keeps Going and Scott Starts To Realize About Thanksgiving Time That He Is Starting To Change Looks!! No Matter What He Does It Comes Right Back!! Scott Is Gaining Weight and Facial Hair With a Humongous Appetite For SWEETS!!

Laura and Neil Take Scott In Front of a Judge To Decide If Charlie Should Be Spending Anytime With Him....Scott Loses All Visitation Rights.

Eventually Scott Realizes (With Charlie's Consistentency) That He Is SANTA CLAUSE!! He Goes To See Charlie to Tell Him Thanks (Ignoring The Judge's Ruling). Benard The Head Elf Shows Up and Takes Charlie and Sanat To The North Pole. Naturally, Laura and Neil Think That Scott Has Kidnapped Charlie So They Call The Police!

Santa with Charlie are in the Sleigh When They End Up At Laura and Neils Home. The Police Arrest Scott and E.L.F.S. Come and Set Him Free! Then Laura and Neil Realize That Scott is Santa Clause By Looking Into His Eyes!!

Best Christmas Movie Ever Made!! I Highly Recommed If You Love CHRISTMAS!

A great Family Movie for the Holidays!

When this movie came out in the theaters, I went and watched it and enjoyed it so when it came out on DVD I purchased it )okay maybe it was a gift but I di want it)

Tim Allen is funny - home Improvement funny as the average self centered guy who works for a toy company and recently divorced dealing with the fact his wife is now with another man.

Santa falls of Scott Calvins (Allen) roof and dies and when Calvin puts on the Santa suit to pitch in his life changes forever - which is hard for him to accept as well as everyone who knows him/

The movie is funny and the special effects are great.

The bonus material on the DVD is good to look at as well.

Game for kids on DVD!

The first Santa Clause Movie

I saw this movie in the movie theater and loved it enough to finally decide to buy it; today's tv schedule, even with cable, it SO bad that I am building up a library of good movies.
This movie illustrates HOW Tim Allen BECOMES Santa Claus -- The special effects are great, as is his humor; he does not want to become Santa Claus and has no idea HOW to be a good Santa Claus. He is divorced and devoted to his son, which is a complication --- his relationship with his ex-wife and new husband, as well as explaining to his son, Charlie, that he cannot have him with him all of the time because he now IS Santa.
Tim Allen seems to be "in his element" in this series of movies. He wasn't as good in "The Shaggy Dog." If you liked his tv series, you'll probably like this movie. His off-the-cuff comments and sarcasm are much more effective comedy for him than his attempt at physical comedy, such as becoming a dog! The movie is a hoot as we get to see what the North Pole is really like!

"One Of The Best Holiday Films!"

Tim Allen and Judge Reinhold star in this 1994 comedy.
A businessman unwittingly becomes Santa Claus after
the real one has an accident. I've always liked this film
and this dvd has good picture and sound plus a couple
neat extras. This is one of the best holdiay films that's
highly recommended.
