Reviews & Research

CNET Editors' reviewExcellent

The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is very inexpensive; it has a solid, pocket-friendly design with dedicated volume controls and a built-in belt-clip; it's easy to use; and it offers a plethora of handy features, including a MicroSD card slot, Rhapsody DNA, a voice recorder, an FM tuner, and support for FLAC, Ogg, Audible, and podcasts.

The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ could stand to have better battery life and support for AAC; the monochrome display is small and may be hard for some to read.

The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is an excellent successor to the line, offering a fitness-friendly design with a built-in belt-clip, a simple interface, solid sound quality, and plenty of handy features--all for an ultralow price. It's an unbeatable value.

Just the perfect simple mp3 player, and so much more, at a bargain price.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Sansa Clip PLUS is just simple, tiny mp3 player, with excellent sound quality, huge storage capacity, & simple controls, that plays a wide variety of formats. Its so tiny & light that you can clip it just about anywhere. The one down-side of it's size is that it can be easy to lose. There are plenty of cheap (and not so cheap)imitators of this little guy, but don't be fooled. At $20 or even $30, this one is a bargain you won't regret. The simple display is bright, easy to read in the brightest day, or darkest night. The sound quality is as good or better than the ipod. There is a version of Rockbox firmware for it, but I have not tried it yet; the menus & such on this, while not anything amazing, are simple & efficient to its purpose. It has a fully customizable 5-band EQ, (along with a several presets) different play speed settings for audiobooks, 5 star rating system for your music, and a wide variety of play choice options: you can select to listen by genre, artist, album, folder, personal rating, playlist, podcast, audiobook, voice recording, or recently added. And did I mention it had a microphone? At first I assumed that little pinhole mic at the top would be a joke; surely no mic so small could be any good? After playing around with it just a few minutes, I discovered how truly wrong I was! The recording quality amazed me; as good or better than the dedicated digital voice recorder I paid $35 for! Of course its definitely not a professional studio mic, and the recorder does only one (.wav) format, but it will pick up just about any sound within earshot, with remarkable clarity for it's price range, and dead simple to use. I use it to record far more often than my "voice recorder". Also it has FM radio, which you can choose preset channels for, or let it auto-scan for presets. I rarely use the FM though. I can say that it works, seems to get okay reception, but thats about all I know. It is a bit slow to start up, if you've just loaded new music on it, but of course that goes away the second time. I owned the original clip before this, which was a gem (until I lost it in a river!); this one is improved in just a few really crucial ways; better storage, better button layout, which make it a perfect A++. I should mention I also bought the Clip Zip, which came after, and went straight back to this one. The clip+ is just better, in its simplicity.

So, bad points: It takes a few secs to "figure itself out" if you've just loaded a bunch of stuff on it. Its tiny size means you can lose it more easily. It might not deflect bullets, or give you super-powers, though honestly I haven't tried.

So, if you're considering whether or not to buy this, If I had to pay over $50 (the price of a brand new one) for this, I would, but $20 - $30 is a reasonable price to expect right now, on Ebay, for a used one in perfectly good working order. (I got mine for $18) In that price range don't even hesitate, go ahead and pay a bit extra if it means getting a specific color you want; you won't regret it.

If you need further encouragement to buy one, try searching "anythingbutipod sansa clip+" or even just "sansa clip+ review" and be prepared to see the word "excellent" repeated ad nauseum.

A tiny Titan of an MP3

Review For: SanDisk Sansa Clip+ (4 GB) Digital Media Player

The Sandisk Sansa Clip Plus may look like a toy and not a serious MP3 device but don't be deceived. I have had a few players and found this one to be the best all around device available. It is miniture in size, convenient carry and clip on to where you want it, has awesome sound and an endless amount of storage capacity.
The Clip Plus is a modestly priced MP3 that delivers all day long. It's easy to use, you can drag and drop files with no special software required. It is a convenient digital sound recorder, plays FM radio and is ready to play SR prerecorded songs or books throught the micro SD expansion slot.
If your a serious listener, or want a great player to listen to audio books, this is the one for you. It's vertually indistructable, plays up to 16 hours on a charge and delivers the best fidelity possible. I use mine for audio books and find the progressive fast forward scan indespensable for scanning large sound files of 300mb or more with no wasted time. Dollar for dollar this little player blows the Ipod away!

I am simply happy with purchasing

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

This player is good. It can't be compared to most other player because it the very good player
The adavntage of thi player:
- very bright display even with minimum bright
- it is very light - 25 gram!!!!
- there is the clip on this player !!!!!
- the volume of sound can be very very loud !!!!
- the sound is good and you will be transfered to nirvana if you take better ear-phone. The current ear-phone is also good.
- you can easy connect to yuor PC and upload music without any additional software !!!!
- this player have additional MicroSD slot and memory card other then SanDisk is also supported!!!! It is easy upgradable to player with 36 Gb of memory with one touch and one MicroSD memory card of cource.
- the simple, intuitive and frendly interface that contain sorting for songs, singer, albums and audio books.
- the memory up to 40 radio station
- you can setup data and time but it is impossible to dispaly time on display
- the volume of radio is changed sometimes whan you walk, run or go in the car. Maybe it depends on quality on radio. Another my player with radio and cell phone is not subjected to similar problem.

If you find light weight player with frendly and intuitive interface i will strongly recommend this player. I use this player more month amd I have never regretted about purchasing. I use it 2 or 3 hours every days and whole charge enough for 5 days

Good product for people who like VLC/Realtek HD sound

No, I would not recommend this product.

I bought Sansa Clip+ to have a little clippable player for cycling and gym. Having read many positive reviews about the sound I did not hesitate to purchase it without trying out. When I finally got to listen to it, I was slightly disappointed. Yes, it does sound better than many compact players, but it sounds like VLC player with a Realtek HD chip. This is the sound that I don't personally like, it's too harsh to my ear. I compared it to my old Creative Zen V Plus and found the latter satisfactory, so I decided to keep my old player and sell the Sansa Clip+. Otherwise, for people who enjoy VLC+Realtek HD sound, this player is a true gem, because it has a lot of useful features (like recording, memory card slot), which are further expandable with the third-party Rockbox software. The number of sound settings (as well as other settings) in the Rockbox software is impressive. Parametric equalizers, compressor, dithering, and so on. And yes, this player has high volume capacity, in case you want to use it with higher impedance headphones.
UPDATE: with a headphone amp this player provides better sound. I also tested as many as three makes of this player (2GB, 4GB and 8GB from different batches), I can tell you that every batch has its own specific sound, and you never know what you get. Also be careful about which version of Rockbox you use. If you are not sure, stick to older versions (around 3.7), because one of the 2012 versions bricked my player.

Best for value and features!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I'm spoiled by this. Great features. Small, compact size (almost too small! I keep misplacing it!) the clip has ruined me for others. Excellent quality of sound, plus the included earbuds are terrific value! I bought a second supposedly better pair elsewhere and junked them for the originals.
