Samsung SGH A887 Solstice - Black (AT&T) Cellular Phone

The good - the Samsung Solstice has a very user friendly touch interface and a useful set of multimedia features comparable to those of "today's market". Photo quality is quite good but I wouldn't say impressive. The bad - the Samsung Solstice lacks instant messaging - in my opinion a very important feature, and the memory card slot is behind the battery - this can get aggravating removing the card. Call quality, browser speed, and video performance are unimpressive to say the least. The bottom line - the Samsung Solstice offers a sleek touch screen and useful multimedia features, but its performance isn't the best. Overall, average phone for the value.

I bought this phone for my wife, and she loves it for the most part but as with most consumer electronics, there are always some imperfections.
The first is the camera function. If you want a phone with a solid camera option, you may want to look elsewhere.
There is a terrible delay when capturing images with this model. The subject being photographed must remain completely still throughout the entire capturing process or you will have a blurry picture.
We have had many camera phones, and this one has by far the worst camera of the bunch. It operates as if it were in night shot mode at all times even though it is not. We went so far as to purchase a class 6 micro sd card with the hopes it would speed up the capture to no avail. Shooting stills in very bright light is the only way to obtain good quality 2mp images at any setting.
Granted, its a phone, and not a high end camera, so take that into consideration.
Another thing that kinda sucks is the messaging tones. The phone uses a default tone, and it cannot be changed like any other phone we have ever owned. Kinda unbelievable!
Aside from the two gripes above, I think most users will be happy with their purchase. Everything works without a hitch.
The bluetooth functions flawlessly, Battery life is good for a phone with a large bright screen, and call reception is good.
The user can change the fonts for all applications within the phone. It also features a simple, but perfect screen/key lock button at the top of the phone so there is no pocket dialing, and its easy! No combination of pressing this, then that to get it up and running again.
All in all this is a good fun phone with a solid interface and super thin, elegant construction.

Pros:
1. You don't have to pay for a data plan if you don't want one, unlike the iPhone.
2. It comes with free Mobile Video, unlike the iPhone, which allows you to watch full or partial video of your favorite tv shows from tons of channels such as ABC, NBC, Fox, MTV, Nickelodian, Disney, and much more. Mobile Video is free but requires a data plan to use.
3. Lots of popular applications to choose from
4. Very easy to use and navigate. Great for first time touch phone users.
5. Data plans are only $15 per month or $10 if you have a family plan. iPhone's require a $30 data plan.
6. Unlike the iPhone 3G the Samsung Solistice takes both pictures and video! It has various special effect features. (iPhone 3gs and newer have video also but much more costly)

Cons:
1. You have to press rather firmly on the screen. It would be best to use a rubber tipped stylus. Unlike the ease of touching the screen on an iPhone.
2. No standard headphone jack
3. Screen scratches easy and screen protectors are complicated to apply

Over all I highly recommend this phone. It's important to store it in a soft leather case when not in use to protect the screen from getting damaged. Otherwise it's a low maintenance easy to use phone.

I love my phone. If you are looking for a touch screen phone, this one is fun and works very well. The camera takes really good pics and video. It has voice activation also! The music player works really well and with a memory card you can load it up with your favorite tunes! For extra you can add ATT GPS Navigation that works really well! But if you have internet you can go with Google Maps! Oh, the best thing is you don't have to purchase the Data Packaging plan like you do with an Iphone or PDA's, all you need to have is a text messaging package plan! I just purchased another Solstice for my son and he loves it! He owned an Iphone before. If you looking for a little larger phone with more memory look at the Samsung Mythic, its similiar to this phone and its fun as well! Hope this helps! Enjoy!

I love world phones, and this is a sleek lighweight, beautifil phone. It is very easy to operate and learn, it has many applications tou use. It has many different up to date ringtones, not those dorkey tones.It has differrent vibration levels. It has so much on it, I highly recommend it. It also has a call reject setting. You know how you just dont want someone to call you but they wont stop it, well this does it for you and you dont have to make up excuse why you dont want to talk!! The touch screen doesnt go to fast. Overall this is a great phone and a great buy!!!
