Samsung Alias 2 SCH-U750

Pros: This phone has a dual hinge which allows for the phone to open and close in two different manners. It opens the generic way a normal phone does (vertical) as well as horizontally. Vertical is for phone calls and normal use, horizontal is for texting.

The phone can take photos in vertical or horizontal styles which is nice if you want a normal picture or a wide screen picture.

I only use my cell phone to talk for about 20-30 minutes a day but average roughly 150 texts between receiving and sending and the battery life lasts about 3 days for me.

Keyboard buttons are big enough so that you do not hit multiple buttons when texting.

Sound quality is above average when playing music. I bought a converter so i can plug in normal headphones and listen to music and the music play doesn't seem to affect battery life much at all, and the sound quality is great.

The phone offers an email service for something like $2.99 a month which is nice if you want email capabilities without the big data plan service for blackberry's and other smart phones.

The phone syncs a 4 minute song in about 10 seconds when transferring music from your computer to your phone.

They have added rubber bumpers on the edge of the phone so when you close the screen it does not leave marks on the screen from the screen hitting the buttons. (The alias 1 did this)

There are a couple cool features you can use after taking pictures. Such as emboss, gray scale, black and white, and 3-4 other ones. You can also change the contrast, saturation, hue, merge photos, and lighting in photos. (Most new verizon phones with newer interfaces have these features.)

If you are listening to music and you receive a text, phone call, or anything else that forces you to leave the music player, once you are done with your call or text, the music starts back up from where it left off.

My girlfriend and I both agreed my 2 megapixel camera on my alias 2 took better and more crisp photos than her blackberry curve.

I tried multiple micro SD cards I had lying around the house (a-data, kingston, corsair, a no name brand, and san disk) and the alias 2 recognized all of them.

When recording video and taking photos i find neither to really suck up battery life. (The biggest threat to battery life is phone calls on this phone)

Battery life is a bit above average I would say.

The e-ink is an incredibly cool feature. You are able to change the buttons with a click of a button through use of ink and electricity ... awesome!

Cons

Some batteries have been found to be faulty.
(people who are having trouble with poor battery life, 1 day or less should look into returning the battery as there is a rumor of defective batteries going around in these phones)

If you open the screen really fast, it takes a second for the screen to turn on.

When using the music player to play music, if you click options while listening to music, your music pauses until you leave the options menu.

Phone doesn't come with the usb cable.

The interface can be slightly slow at times but is completely tolerable for me at least.

Overall this phone is a great upgrade from the alias 1. Many of these features listed above may be available on newer Verizon phones but between the dual hinge and the price of the phone I payed which was $29.99 when I was due for my 2 year contract upgrade I don't think you can beat the features this phone comes with.

u740 samsung alias memory issue u750

I know this isn't the exact model. soarda have a habit of posting a review on the phone before I get into the phone, lol. but here is my review.

I got the phone U740 in 2009 and it worked excellent from the start, I used the keyboard ALL OF THE TIME. It was also dropped a lot too. I mean I thought it'd break. I mean it eventually sort of did, but not because of dropping it.

One day I flipped it open to view a text landscape. The screen flashed back to the Verizon Vcast background screen and I restarted the phone. Seemed like it started working again. And it would always switch my pictures. Because I'd always be able to set it to what I had it on before, but I'd lose it the next time I flipped open or closed the phone. Got so it wouldn't read the card. Had placed my card in another phone, and it read it but wouldnt show what my phone had on the card. Placed it back into the Alias and had the phone work again. Phone stupidly developed the same habit again shortly after, and I REMOVED the card to put into a different phone to see if the problem persisted. Well I gently hit the button open and the card snapped in half. I don't know what my problem was but sold it as is, and didn't want to even use that phone again. I will maybe someday get the Zeal or Alias2, if that's a guaranteed update. Got the Samsung Intensity after owning this and gave it to a friend awhile back

Basically its a 4.5 star because the phone was EXCELLENT for everything else. Conference calls at meetings'd always work on speaker phone, and texting was awesome as well as the VCAST media player NEVER failed me at all.

Oh, and also sometimes the charging port wouldn't recognize the charger, itd take but then not necessarily take the charge, then say no charger.

Basically without these two port problems, and SD reading problems this phone was perfect, and I feel it deserves the 4.5 star rating.

And as a side-note I always felt I'd break the keyboard off the sides, but I didn't.

Highly recommended for the convenience of flip & qwerty

I've had this phone for about two weeks.

The reason I bought this phone, of course, and what I love about it, is the way you can flip it both ways (so you have the convenience of both a flip and a comfortable qwerty) and the keys change for what you need them. (RLY clear & convenient!)
(My only reservation is that the "send" and "end" keys aren't colored differently - only underlined.)

For a clamshell, it's relatively big, but that's necessary for the qwerty, which is *very comfortable* to use. (I also like a big phone when opened; it's got a secure feel, and I talk straight into the receiver.) Because of all the buttons, the numeric keypad in the clamshell mode is quite small, but I haven't found that to be an issue.

The keys are very well-layed out, very intuitive. When opened like a clamshell, many of the extra keys are used for convenient shortcuts, and you can personalize a lot more for the direction keys, and in the menu.

This is my first time owning a qwerty phone, and I've found this one to be a breeze. I was wary of it, since I'd used my sister's and brother's blackberries and had found the keys tiny, and the typing to be really difficult, but not so on this one.

One thing I love about this phone is that the messages can be organized in either an inbox and sent folder, or as threaded messages, by contact! I hadn't seen any reviews mentioning this, and I was upset to give up this part of my old phone, but I was pleasantly surprised!

Add to that the display - it's big, clear and colorful, and you can change the phone's fonts - and I LOVE using this phone!

The reception is great. So is the sound quality.
I use this mainly for talking and texting, but I took some pictures on the camera, and they were pretty clear.

Since we live in a world where nothing is *perfect*, here are some cons I found with the phone:

*Contact groups only hold up to ten contacts. You can make more groups, but I find that inconvenient, especially since you have a longer list to scroll through.

* You can't assign a specific ringtone to a contact group; you need to do it by individual contact which can be a real pain.

*I find it somewhat confusing that when the messages are stored by contact, the folder shows the contact name with a preview of the last message. I would find it clearer instead to have a folder with just the contact name, and a preview of each message only once it's opened.

*Also, an issue I have with the phone is that sometimes, when it snaps shut, it powers off. I contacted the seller about it, and she said it happened to her once or twice in her year of owning it, and that her cousin, who is a verizon rep, told her some ppl have called in w/this issue and it is a manufacture defect. I think it got worse for me b/c the page plus dealer who activated it banged it to get out the battery, and I think that loosened it, or something.
But though I find this somewhat annoying, it's minor in comparison to the rest of the phone's performance and ease of use.

If your in debate about a cell phone for someone that doesn't like a big bulky phone, or worrying about getting a phone that doesn't do this or that. WELL YOUR WORRYS WOULD BE OVER IF YOU BUY AN ALIAS 2. "SAMSUNG" HAS DONE AN EXCELLANT JOB MAKING THIS PHONE !!! Phone opens 2 different ways and the qwery key pad is great for texting. I would highly recommend doing your research with Verizon on this phone and you will plainly see that it is 4 1/2 - 5 STAR RATED PHONE. I purchased one via verizon contract for $29.99 with my discounts, and turned around and bought one for my husband because he loved mine so much. The great part is he's been through the Voyager, the Krave, the enV-2 all within the last 8-9 months and this is diffently the phone for him. He likes the fact that you can open the phone and it feels like using a regular landline phone, and he can text with his big fingers and not accidently hit keys he didnt mean to. WOW I could go on and on about this phone, I recently purchased his from ebay for $185.00 and its been worth every penny.
