Product Information
The Samsung Rugby II A847 is a rugged no-nonsense phone for users who want smartphone functionality within a package that can hold up to any abuse. A military-spec design and durable, water-resistant plastic case keeps this Samsung Flip Phone ready to absorb punishment outdoors or on the job site. At 4.01 x 2.05 x 0.86-inches and only 3.52 oz, this feature phone is small enough to stow in coat or pants pocket, but large enough to incorporate a vibrant color display. Despite the fact that the Samsung Rugby II A847 isn’t specifically marketed to smartphone users, there are few things a smartphone can do that the Rugby cannot. This military-spec design includes all the standard feature phone options—instant messaging and POP3 email support, GPS, and a 2 MP camera—but takes it a step further with integrated WiFi, onboard web browsing, and a high-quality music player. The Samsung flip phone also incorporates voice dialing and Push-to-Talk features, as well as dozens of options for customizing the user experience, from adjustable brightness levels to personalized themes and wallpapers. Overall, the Samsung Rugby II A847 delivers plenty of functionality while still being able to take any punishment its owner can deliver.

Samsung SGH Rugby II A847 (AT&T)

This may be the phone I've always wanted! It's very durable and sturdy. The speaker has the ability to be VERY loud! The screen is very sharp, the sound is very clear, and the buttons are very comfortable in size. The phone case itself is a bit larger than my old flips, but still much smaller than the Curves, Blackberrys, etc. It also is supposed to be water resistant as it has o-ring seals around the battery cover and other critical parts. And the cover has a latch screw to hold it in place in case it were to get dropped, so it won't fly apart! Lastly, an extra feature I like, along with the duability, there is a metal loop on the back of it to allow attachment of a strap. I use a lanyard to help keep it close and controlable in the car, to ensure it doesn't go flying away from me in the event of an accident. The only real negative I have for it is that there are so many places it can take me (ie the web connections) that I have no intention of using, and it can be slightly confusing. But I guess that is more due to the large amount and format of the 'aps' than the fault of the phone. For those of you who like the aps and want the smart phone features, it still does all that stuff too!

Eye of the Behold-er!

Depending on how you use it. I have had this phone for a month. I bought it to be able to log on using the WiFi without having to pay for a DATA plan. This works very well for me. I don't use the APPS downloads, as I don't use them. The Screen is pretty sharp. The 5 MPx. camera is great! Texting is nice with the Keyboard Qwerty screen touch. My biggest complaint is that is a little slow and the battery don't last long, this could be that the battery needs replacing. I bought the phone used, and was told by the seller that it was a couple of months old, but who knows. overall I am happy with it except for those glitches. What makes the phone worthwhile is the service with Tmobile. I had Tmobile for three years and I love their customer service. They treat you right. Although, it has nothing to do with the phone's quality, I thought I mention it. I don't use the capabilities of this phone using the Android OS system. But somebody else that does, might provide a more detailed review. Other insight: I have not been able to allow for more than 5 seconds to answer a call. If I don't pick up the phone and answer right away, it will disconnect the call before answering. When in my carrying case if I press the side keys when lifting it out of the case (when incoming call) It will hang up the call. I have no knowledge on how to get rid of this problem. If I could solve some of these issues, I would definitely give it five stars. I have looked at other phones in the same category, and they all have some sort of glitch that makes it impossible to like them a 100%. My opinion is "you get what you get".

toughest phone i ever had or heard of

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought the samsung rugby 2 because i needed a tough phone and was getting tired of replacing junk phones after a month or two and i am glad i bought it,the phone is indestructable with normal use,i have waited 7 months to write this review as to give time to assess and report correct imfo on the phone, the speaker phone is awsome i use it all the time and often need to turn the volume down as it is very loud and i am hard of hearing and when talking on speaker the other party has no problem hearing me when i set the phone down and move 10 feet away from it.I once dropped the phone from my motorcycle at 60 mph and the phone bounced down the road behind me and slid off the road down a hill into a muddy horse pasture it took me about 20 min to find it and after wiping it off the phone was scratch free and worked like it just came out of the box,i was amazed,i have also got it wet while hunting in the rain several times and dropped it twice from my treestand at 17 feet while texting my hunting buddies and it never missed a lick i cant count how many times it has been just normally dropped or fallen off the end table in 7 months any other phone i had would have been junk after the first hit, for someone looking for a tough phone with more high tech stuff than i will ever use i dont see how you could go wrong,I dont think they could build a more durable phone i also have some music on it and it plays very loud and clear the battery lasts for days with normal talking and texting i only charge mine about once a week, the camera takes good pics and it has quite a bit of storage, the only thing that i could complain about is it answers when pulling it out of my case occasionally due to hitting one of the buttons on the side of it which is a very minute problem in my book as the other party has always still been on the line when i get the phone to my ear, i dont use the web or the push to talk but it's there if i needed it along with the gps,, military grade you bet,,thanks samsung from a rugged outdoorsman who needs a tough phone if your the kinda guy that sits behind a desk and watches movies and surfs the web and does the facebook thing on his phone this one propably isn't your phone, if you need a phone that takes a beeting and keeps on working and you dont have to seek shelter to talk or text in wet weather look no further this is the phone for you ,,Joe

Excellent phone for the price

I was purchasing this phone with a little skepticism after reading some bad reviews. After using the phone for about 2 weeks now I have to disagree with just about every negative statement I read about the phone. However, I do not use a data plan at all and do not use the phone for browsing at all, possibly will start since it does have the WiFi capability so i can browse for free. The first time I charged the phone friday night and battery did not run out till the following thursday (I do not use the phone a lot I guess but for me its a great battery life) Phone works fast enough for everything I need to do. I heard a lot of people complaining about the inability to uninstall the apps which supposedly slow down the phone. I very quickly found an option on the phone to uninstall any and all apps that you want to remove, just like the uninstall utility on the PC. The camera takes amazing pictures for a cell phone camera. I have not tried connecting the phone to a PC yes to confirm the problem with Windows 7 not recognizing it but I am sure its the inability of the user to find a solution. I am positive that I will be able to do so but in worst case scenario I will use my Vista laptop if I need to connect.

Great Rugby Unit

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I don't use all the features of this phone. But what I do use is wonderful. Don't care too much about internet on a phone but did have it activated for 3 days. It worked great I was the problem rather use internet from a computer. The camera takes decent photos, can put some good audio files on it too. The software that comes with the phone is low tech for my standards I can't do much with it as far as calendaring, so I don't use the software. I edit my files and photos then drag them over via computer through the 16gb memory card.

The Push to talk works great as far as the phone and bluetooth everything is well worth it. But again you may like what I don't like everyone is diferent I would still highly recomend the phone
